Under Attack was a very good song but I think the fans were used to more melodic songs from Abba. The expectation of ABBA songs was very high then and still is today. With any other band, Under Attack would probably have been a big hit.
@Cicilo1983
@Cicilo1983 2 жыл бұрын
I really agree with you. The arrangements (instrumental and vocal) are colder than what people were used to from the band, and the song is probably too midtempo for its own good. They were trying to adapt to the times, however, you have to give them that, even though the effort was half-convincing (in my opinion, at least).
@spuwho
@spuwho 2 жыл бұрын
The song is too laid back and generic to have been a hit. No offense but the women are dressed like wealthy 40 year olds in the video. This did not sell well in the new MTV era that was just beginning. ABBA's low budget film based music videos in the mid 1970's were ahead of their time and novel, but this video appears to be a low budget obligation compared to the newer music video themes coming out at the time.

Some ABBA fans bitch about their final music and The Visitors album because the songs aren't as happy and cheerful as older material. But, it's actually the best, most mature and thoughtful music they did.

@robertwill23
@robertwill23 4 жыл бұрын
I won't say it is more mature just because it is darker and some lyrics are political or clearly personal. Surely, they sound like that bc it reflects their state at that time. But, I think, musically it is not more mature. Previous albums, I'd say, are more mature in that sense. Lyrically, yes, Vistiors are more personal. But many ABBA songs (at least since album ABBA) have sad or reflective lyrics beneath seemingly upbeat music (Voulez-Vous, for example, quite moody and unsettling - in music and lyrics are quite ambiguous).

I so agree! "The Visitors" is by far the best album they ever did. The music is truly beautiful, and quite different from anything they did before. They'd always veered towards melancholy underneath their cheery Europop, but this album was quite special. "I Let the Music Speak" is my favourite, it is like poetry set to music, but "The Visitors" and "The Piper" are close seconds. I got the album when it came out, so a LP, without the bonus tracks (including this one). Any REAL fan, not Johnny-Come-Latelys, would recognise this. I've followed them since 1976 when I was a tiny kid, and I think this album was the culmination of their brilliant work.

True !. But actually, it´s not a coincident. Not solely at least. "B & B" and their manager Stikkan Andersson (no, they´re not relatives) made a huge investmest in building up a music studio from the ground, called "Polar studios", in Stockholm. One of the most high end, technologically advanced recording facilities in the world at the time, it offered complete new realms for SOUNDS. Not just MUSIC ! (like "video game space war effects", simply from the plain fact that they had pea soup for lunch !. No, just kidding). Partly under the influence of the mastermind on the area, Michael B. Tretow, completely new ideas found its forms in there. And "fine tuned mixing ("layer on layer") of vocal´s", was ONE part of that. -Back up vocal´s/chorus harmonies to begin with (i would guess). But they must have realised the true prospect of mix together the well trained and experienced vocal voices from Frida and Agnetha, into one single "Super Abba voice", and then there were no way back apparently !. "Voulez-Vous" was their first album to be recorded in "Polar studios" back in 1979, AND YOU CAN TELL IT !. "Angeleyes" isn´t among my Abba favorites, but DAMN, "the unified vocal voice" sounds ABSOLUTE MAGNIFICENT IN IT !. And so does the title song "Voulez vous". "Il grande momentum" in this regard came with [what then seemed to be] their final album "The visitors", and "ONE OF US" !. But don´t get me wrong, of course Abba did smart and advanced sound effects/mixes, long before the "Polar studios" era. But if you go back to the earliest albums in 1973/74, you can hear a distinct lesser amount and level of such methodologies (yeeh, all four of ém sings there, just like a song quartet !!. Who did they think they were ?. "The Manhattan transfer" ?!..)

According to Agnetha, they ended it because it was no longer fun, like it was in their earlier days. Pure and simple, they got sick of it. And one can't fault them for that. They were certainly tired of working at this point. Frida was still that little bit heartbroken over Benny but was recovering. Agnetha was moving on with her own solo career and Bjorn and Benny were writing music for other projects. The writing was on the wall in 1981 when Benny and Frida split up more of less. It's a great shame that such an amazing worldwide band ended this way but some of the songs that were made in the final years are truly fantastic and are certainly unique in a terrific way. This being one of them. :-)

This video is like a prophecy. When they walked out of the warehouse at the end; they walked out of our lives. They walked out of ABBA. They walked out of world superstardom. They walked out of their marriages. They walked out of the business. They walked out of the public eye. It is sad. All we have left is their music, their videos, their youthfulness, their being happy couples........the good old days......when ABBA ruled the world. All we can do now is trade stories and reminisce. If you were fortunate enough to see them perform live it is something that is sure to remain one of the highlights of your life. Agnetha & Frida were the 2 most recognizable people on earth. When ABBA ruled the world.

Did you ever listen to the stupid questions they were being asked in interviews? Every where they went, somebody wanted to interview them. One of the latest I saw on KZbin, the host asked her two questions that were sure to embarrass her. 1. What do you think about the Aussie claim that you have the greatest bottom in Rock and Roll. That went over real big. Even the co-host was a little embarrassed. 2. Do you know that your one of the richest women in the world? When you go to fill up your car with gas, you can afford to buy the whole tanker. First he puts his left foot right in his mouth and then without hesitation he puts his right foot in with it. I would be surprised if he was not fired right after she left the studio. If I would have been there for that interview, I would have asked him how big his joy stick is and then knocked him out. There is no shortage of wankers in the world.

The people of the 21st century love ABBA as the band of that time but they have heroes of their own to fill the 2018 pop charts. And rightly so. And with this last single and video ABBA took a break which ended up being a permanent one. There was no announcement of them disbanding. ABBA intended on coming back after a year or two but it was never to be. A lot of fans long for a reunion but I admire ABBA for calling it quits when they were on top. There are so many bands and artists that stay on too long and their music suffers and they end up tarnishing their legacy because their music becomes tired and uninspired. ABBA never had to suffer that fate and they have left us so many amazing songs!!! ABBA lives on forever!
