She is 92 years old. Married Xavier Cugat, a band leader of Latin music. She was never happy with him. She was 18 when she married him, he was 30 years her older. A New York Jew from Brookling, full of talent, she is a jewel of the most famous entertainers.

She isn't a native Hispanic/Latina, yet her pronunciation is 200% native-perfect, on this & the other videos of her. And of course, her beauty speaks for itself. Wherever she is now, I hope she is doing well.

@@johnrudan9699 Sorry, I didn’t read that closely enough. Since she was big in the 60s, I thought she was on the original TV show version. Just looked her up and she did play guest roles in Naked City, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Flying Nun, F Troop, The Brady Bunch, and Hart to Hart.

Great. Another Abbe Lane performance. I was looking forward to this as she had done a Latin American medley on The Hollywood Palace a few months earlier in 1965 (performance is also on KZbin). She's a nice singer. Funny though the set makes me think this is more like the Dean Martin Show than the Ed Sullivan Show.

So... how it is possible to have that marvelous sound with a remote microphone in 1966 and 56 years later to have completely lost the ability to record sound respecting acoustics...?
@HightsWrite Жыл бұрын
At the time, performers on this type of variety show would lip-synch to their own records. There was no other way to capture anything like the richness of sound that a could be captured in a studio. Performers on an open stage had to be closely-miked, which they couldn't do on TV if they wanted the performers to move freely without wires and big microphones everywhere. There were no miniaturized wireless microphones yet, for example. When bands perform, for example, you would frequently see electric guitars that weren't plugged in, and the performers just mimed the performance. Some shows were live, of course, but then the microphones and wires were fully visible.

@@HightsWrite Oh my... This is live performance. I am always surprised by commenters that don't have the eyes and ears to distinguish lip syncing from a live performance.
