this song is amazing, a classic. These were some of the greatest musicians of all time. Hank Jones....no words.

Stan Getz - Sax (Tenor) Hank Jones - Piano Charlie Haden - Bass Maxine Roach - Viola Mark Johnson - Drums Abbey Lincoln - Vocals ¡¡¡Bellíiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisima letra!!! Bird alone, flying high Flying through a clouded sky Sending mournful soulful sounds Soaring over troubled grounds Bird alone with no mate Turning corners tempting fate Flying circles in the air Are you on your way somewhere? Gliding, soaring on the wind You're a sight of glory Flying way up there so high Wonder what's your story Bird alone, flying low Over where the grasses grow Swingin' low, then out of sight You'll be singing in the night Gliding, soaring on the wind You're a sight of glory Flying way up there so high Wonder what's your story Bird alone, flying low Over where the grasses grow Swingin' low, then out of sight You'll be singing in the night

Abbey was a treasure. And of course a pleasure to hear. A unique voice. There's never a doubt who was singing when you heard her.

I fell in love with Abbey at a young age, and still love to oil paint to her music after a dissolved relationship, and transitioning through to the other side of the attached at heart phase. Helps, she makes the world glow in a gentle, healing, way..

Abbey expresses every emotion--love, pride, pain, & joy in herself her joy in her aloneness! RIP Goddess!

We lost an amazing talent when she passed. Fortunately, she left the world a body of spectacular work. I so wish I could have seen her perform live.

I've never heard (of) Ms. Lincoln until just now. What a GREAT voice. Did she write, anyone know, the tune herself? Would LOVE to see the chart.
@kendeeni4 жыл бұрын
Per All Music, she did indeed write the music and lyrics to this tune.

I was privileged to see her at Small's Paradise in Harlem Harlem in 1984, at Condon's in the Village in 1985, and at Blues Alley in Georgetown, DC in 1996. I bought this album, and the liner notes said she wrote this song while she was thinking about Miles Davis during her flight from Japan
