I have worked in disaster response and it is recommended that all households have at least 3 days worth of water and food you can eat without needing electricity to cook it. This isn't even for a major disaster but in case of smaller emergencies like very bad storms. It takes the pressure off of emergency services. If most people are fine in their house without electricity or running water for a few days they can focus on the people who are really in trouble like people who need special care, and the city services can work on getting the lights and water back on. I like the idea of more videos like this to help people think about what they should have available to do their part in emergency management.

In, Australia, back in 2007. My city had a really bad storm. Known as the: Pasha Bulker storm, due to a ship... We had to stay indoors for at least 3 days without electricity. Thankfully my mum was a hoarder of food for this reason! And grateful we had a gas stove and oven. So, my son and I were able to at least cook toast and other small meals. After that, I know to be prepared if something like that was to ever happen again. And on top of that, knowing that, God, always provides!

You've outdone yourself with this one! Growing up and living diet culture all my life and still at my highest weight ever (thanks pandemic!) you have put sanity back into my life with your knowledge of nutrition and reaffirming it's okay to enjoy food! I LOVE that you are a real girl who says the f-word, messes up without apology and lets your dog eat off your spoon just like the rest of us! Thank you!

I know this was meant to be a silly video, but growing up on the east coast, we regularly lost power during thunderstorms and went without power for more than a week after a few hurricanes. Now I live on the west coast, so I'm prepping for power outages in anticipation of fire season. You have lots of great ideas here - I would just make sure you are stocked up on water and extra propane for that grill for that zombie apocalypse/alien takeover! And find a use for the rest of those canned goods -- they won't keep, so you really have to eat them all once you open them!

This is absolute GOLD. One thing I'd love to see in your budget/apocalypse type well rounded meal videos is price per serving. Or even a cheap to bougie 1-10 rating along side a 1-10 nutrition rating.

Serving size is very individual so it wouldn't really be helpful to include the price per serving. Maybe the price for the entire recipe.

I’m new to your channel but I wish I found it sooner. You are amazing!! When I look back to your earlier videos like the ones about Freelee, your approach is gentle and shows genuine concern. Their reply videos were so reactionary and extreme in narrative that it just shows their true colors as extremists. It’s their way or the highway and everyone must see it the same way, or else “must be stopped”. It just makes me want to follow a creator like you even more that presents nutrition from a position of human dignity and body autonomy ❤ Thank you for all that you do

I lived many years in an area that was prone to flooding in the spring (and I would be trapped sometimes with no electricity or water for days) and ice storms (also no power or water). So I keep a prepper pantry. I also keep a bulk supply or flour, sugar, rice and beans. I have a small garden and fruit trees and home can as much as I can. Everyone should try to have a small supply of nonperishable food just in case.

There's dehydrated powdered butter, cheese and milk! I use it to make dehydrated backpacking/camping mac and cheese and it's really good. Also, if you pre-cook and then dehydrate your rice and pasta, it cooks wayyy faster. When I am super busy, it's nice to have these ingredients already prepped, so I can have even faster meals!

It just seems like in America at least almost everybody has enough food for three days and all this panic buying and stocking up I mean, so what if you have to eat peanut butter and crackers but literally a jar of peanut butter and a box of crackers will hold anybody from starvation for a couple of days. That’s why it cracks me up to see people hoarding things like cake mix. There is a wonderful old book called how to cook a wolf by the famous writer, MFK Fisher, and she talks about that the London blitz and hiding in air raid shelters say people want a little comfort food like jam and peanut butter

This diet isn't far off from my diet as a college student ( with very little fridge space). Most of my meals consist of canned protein and pantry stable carbs, and frozen veggies and fruits from my small freezer. If electricity wasn't an issue during an apocalypse (maybe through solar power?) I could definitely see getting a large deep freeze and stocking up on frozen produce as a good option.
