I’ve dealt with severe illness anxiety since childhood, which ramped up tenfold when I lost both of my parents to covid in August of 2021. It can be so debilitating and it’s difficult to really explain that to those who haven’t been through it. I’m glad you’ve found some relief by moving back to family and friends ❤

I struggle with illness anxiety too and it comes and goes through the years. My oldest daughter was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia before she turned one. I spent 6 months straight at St. Jude and while that is the BEST place on earth for a child with cancer, it’s like living on a college campus of kids fighting cancer. After that I was in a dark place. I finally dug myself out of that, but I don’t know that I’ll ever completely get over my fear. You can’t go through something like that and expect to not be a changed person. I myself had a big health scare right before Christmas and the anxiety shot up again. The fear of leaving my kids without a mom. I’m a big believer in medication and therapy, but also whatever works for the person to help alleviate the anxiety. There are so many ways to cope. I’m blessed to have a wonderful family (and close) and I can’t imagine going through anything without them. I also have a little fur baby that is my copilot in life. 😊 Wishing you all the best! I guess I should follow up that by the grace of God my daughter is now 16 years old and my health scare turned out to be benign. 🙏🏻

I had a medical event happen about a year and a half ago, age 25. A medical event not anticipated for a 25 year old. It was terrifying and I was also out away from home. Was alone when it occurred, had to call 911 myself. Was tremendously anxious afterwards. Time has healed a lot, but the fear of it happening again and happening worse still is here. I’ve tried my best to befriend it though because it’s a reminder to live my life how I want, work less, try to worry less. I also was working nonstop when it happened and though was told it wasn’t directly related, still felt in my heart it was. I’ve lived a more joyful and peaceful life since and for that, and being alive, I’m eternally grateful

I would love to see a video on coping with anxiety! A year and a half ago I was planning my wedding, going back to college full time (at 34) and working a job that required 45 hours a week. Abbey, I have health anxiety. Started when I was 17. It progressively got worse through the years. I’m now about to turn 50 and while I’ve learned some coping methods just in the last few years, I still haven’t fully gotten it under control. My advice to you is to seek a therapist that deals specifically with health anxiety so you don’t end up like me suffering for decades (you’re such an amazing and intelligent you woman, I’m sure you’re already doing that). Also, dogs are LIFE! I recommend doggy daycare occasionally when she’s old enough. She needs the socialization and it will be good for you as well to get an occasional break. So happy for you that you’re in a good place right now. I wish you all the best 💕

Abbey, I'm just watching this vid now and what you say about health anxiety speaks to my soul. I never normally comment on videos, I just want to thank you for sharing and putting a name to it. I was diagnosed with severe OCD/health anxiety two years after the birth of my daughter. I was struggling so much with the constant thoughts in my head telling me that I or my daughter have a terminal illness and I won't get to see her grow up (we are both medically healthy, there's no logic behind it). Im glad you got help when you did, it can be so isolating and cause so much distress, especially alone with your thoughts.

I had the same kind of anxiety that you have, it started when I was in middle school. It got worse after I had kids because I was terrified of dying and leaving them without a mother. This went on until I was 40 years old and I went on anxiety meds (not saying everyone should do this). This worked for me, I felt like a new person. I never knew what it felt like to be without anxiety bc it permeated every aspect of my life. I admire you for doing what you needed to do to take care of you. Thank you for sharing Abbey. You really have helped a lot of people by talking about your anxiety. I had crippling panic attacks in my 20’s, were I quit my job and basically stayed home for a year. The one thing that helped me “cure” my panic attacks, for want of a better word, was acceptance. That stopped the panic attacks. Instead of fearing them I started to accept them. I then started to tell myself, “I look forward to my next panic attack”….. once I accepted them and welcomed them into my life, they stopped. Completely. I wonder if this shift in mindset could help you. We all live on borrowed time. Maybe embracing that rather than fearing it might help you too. It’s worth a shot 💕

Hey Abbey!!! I actually have this exact same problem as you but my therapist diagnosed me with OCD manifested by obsessive thoughts of terminal illness. Like for instance, if I get a headache I will for sure think I have a brain tumor or meningitis or something else super threatening. The funny thing is, I’m a nursing student! But my OCD isn’t turning knobs, repeating phrases, or any of the other “typical” OCD things. My OCD is the “obsessive compulsive” part only and specifically, obsessive compulsive thoughts related to health anxiety. When I was in college for the first time, it was super bad. Moving home to be closer to my family, aka my sounding board, really helped me! I’m so glad that you’ve turned the corner too. It can be absolutely debilitating because it feels like everyone else has downgraded your anxiety because it doesn’t look like “normal” anxiety to them. A book that really helped me, even though it’s not specifically about OCD, is “The Body Keeps the Score”. Truly life changing!!!

Hi friend. I’ve commented before but feel compelled to just let you know that I moved away from home actually to Minnesota when I was 24 and ended up moving home at 25. My health scare was actually addiction and so I spent some time back in Arizona getting sober. I got my pup, Ziggy, while going through my struggles and now He’s 5 and I’m 3 1/2 years sober! We are living out at the beach in California now and I can honestly say my life did a 180. Thank you for your openness and congrats mama! Life is full of these moments and it’s how to grow from them. Always rooting for you

My anxiety was at an all time high when I was in college. I was lonely, living alone, and struggling with my mental health. My parents encouraged me to get a puppy and it was the best thing I ever did ❤️ I’m so excited for you and to see some puppy content!!

Ok, i’m a little late because i just recently discovered your channel and have been binge watching your videos - even some of your make up videos, and i don’t even use any make up myself! I just like your energy and your goofy mess-ups and some good information on skin care & hair care. I’ve been washing my face with only water & no creams or nothing for 10 years, and is just now starting my skin care journey as a 34 year old (gettin a little dry)… BOY has things changed since 2013! Not gonna write a novel here, but watching this video made me appreciate your channel even more - cuz we need to talk about mental health, every single one of us. So, so important. Thank you for sharing! /new subscriber

Your fur baby is adorable!!! I've had dogs my whole life. They do bring us so much joy. I have a female miniature Pinscher and she's pure love!!! I'm glad you're doing and feeling better, nothing like being with family and close to them, it gives a sense of security.

I have illness anxiety too! I didn’t know anyone else did this! Mine also started in college when the campus Dr misdiagnosed a bacterial infection on my legs (ladies NEVER shave before a pedicure). It continued to spread for months before I came home and saw my Dr. But googling my symptoms did it’s damage. Major stressful changes this summer brought it back on so severely I can’t sleep most nights because I panic I won’t wake up…I finally took the steps for therapy. Thank you for sharing this…I feel less alone and less wrong

I could totally relate to this update. I too have terminal health anxiety something I got after my father died suddenly when I was 17. It's hard to explain to people. Also I just got a puppy this year. Remember there is a toddler phase coming but also leverage places like doggie daycares. A tired dog is a good dog. Welcome back to MN!!

My 11 yr old German Shephard passed away a year ago, and over Christmas my partner got us a Corgi puppy! I'm so excited that you are also getting to experience puppyhood! I'm so happy to have a dog in my life again, they truly are a blessing 💜

Congratulations on your pup! They are a lot of work, but are so worth it! I totally screwed up with my first pup, and didn’t realize you had to socialize dogs with other dogs and people. He still lived a long happy life, but I had to be really careful with him around kids and other dogs. I’ve learned since then, and have had much better adjusted pups. Still tons of work, and I needed professional help with an OCD rescue. But, I wouldn’t change a thing 😁

Thank you so much for sharing! I struggle with anxiety. When I had my last baby I’ve been super anxious about anything that could be wrong. Doesn’t help that I’m cyst prone so any bump that comes up sends me spiraling and freaking out because my greatest fear is leaving my babies. It’s hard sometimes. Congrats on your new baby and doing what’s right for you! ❤

I struggled with anxiety for years, and just want to reassure you that you can get to the other side long-term - and it’s a wonderful place to be! I applaud your decision to get a puppy - counter-intuitively, sometimes it’s those things that we think would be burdensome that end up being just what the doctor ordered (so to speak). Concern for our pets help us get out of our own heads and focus on something other than our own issues. Which is to say that even if you & puppy have some rough patches - it’s all good! 🐕🐶

Oh, you made such good decisions here. First, congrats on your new puppy!! She is adorable!!! And it's so obvious you're in love with each other. 💞 Best of luck with her and ENJOY the joy she brings to your life!! Second good decision--moving home! I think we often underestimate how much we need others in our lives who care about us. And we need them RIGHT THERE! No phone call or Facetime will ever replace a good hug. We are social beings, we love, and we need each other. Third decision--re-examine your workload. Whether you work for yourself or for others, only you can decide how much is too much. NO JOB is worth your health, physical or mental!! So take care of yourself and your puppy first! All else has to wait. Best to you!

I got my first dog as an adult when I was around 25. Best thing I ever did for my depression and anxiety. I’m happily married now and she passed this year at the age of 14 - but those 6 or so years where it was just me and my pup living in an apartment were the best times and SO healing for me.

I’m glad you were able to be with your family again and to get a new baby! I got my amazing shih tzu during the pandemic, and he was hands down the best thing I did for myself that year. He’s 2 now and I adore him. For my anxiety, I find reading, knitting and meditation are all big helps, along w therapy and meds if needed.

I'm not a dog person (as in I don't see myself ever owning a dog, but I am okay around other peoples' dogs), but she is adorable! And to say that you seem so much happier and light is an understatement. You clearly made the right decision to move back home and to get that sweet girl to be your companion!
