As a landlord of many rental properties, I would advise you to discuss all the problems with the landlord( I’m sure you have). Make sure to document EVERYTHING. You definitely should receive some type of compensation for this situation. Credit on your next month’s rent. Document everything This is unacceptable as a tenant. Good luck.

When I was in college, this was honestly the norm for apartments in my town. Unfortunately a lot of landlords just don’t pay attention or care enough to make sure things are in the condition they should be.

My daughter and son-in-law moved into a new place a couple months ago and it was the same thing: filthy and stuff left behind. I lived in the suburbs of Chicago as a little girl. First of all document by writing down and taking pics of what is wrong with the apartment. I do want to tell you that you have a lot of strength, courage, and faith. It took a huge amount of all 3 to make the move that you did. It may take some adjustment time but you truly needed this fresh start in your life. You are very intelligent and extremely helpful. You will conquer what you set out to do. Never doubt yourself, just keep going and trust your instincts. I am very happy for you and will keep you in my prayers.

Ugh, sorry about the aparmtent issues. Sadly, it has largely been my experience that Chicago landlords are pretty negligent. My first apartment was also filthy and my new roommate and I bonded scrubbing it. I also moved to Chicago by myself many years ago - it took some time for it to feel like home, but Chicago is now my favorite place. Welcome!

I started watching your channel only a few months ago. I am so happy for you that you've taken such a good step forward to make your life more of what you want it to be! Moving is so stressful regardless, but to a big city comes with some additional headaches and getting used to. When your place is unpacked, decorated and the appliances fixed, it's gonna be great and you'll feel more at home! Also, take as many walks to that lakeshore as you can because there's nothing more peaceful and refreshing than watching the waves while drinking coffee and planning goals - which is what I do here in NYC. My son was at Naval Basic Training years ago. I loved Chicago -- the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and the Navy Pier. Giordanos 🍕 is great. You can park your car and walk along Lake Michigan. I hope you love Chicago.
