MaGy Actually his passion was pretty clear, I mean Grantaire was described as a person who doesn't believe in anything, hasn't any of real life principles, while Enjolras, on the contrary, had beliefs, ideas, thoughts and was unshakable. So as a weaker person Grantaire aspired to something stronger, inspired and morally stable (Enjolras), cause he himself hadn't any of these traits. It is normal for weak people without belief, they need a proof that there IS something great anyway.

Enjolras is based on a real historical figure who led the Friends of the ABC (no, that is NOT a joke. The movement in history is literally called the same as it is in the book and the musical). He is the leader here, and he's a student around twenty or twenty-one years old. Combeferre is the second-in-command, a student who serves as Enjolras' lieutenant. Courfeyrac is the third-in-command, but is a more prominent member of the Friends of the ABC. Feuilly is fourth-in-command, being also a student. Grantaire serves as the comic relief here, being the drunkard character. Joly is a student who is dissatisfied with King Louis-Philippe, embodying the ideas of changing lives. Jean Prouvaire is another student who dropped out of school in order to fight in the June Rebellion. He is the youngest, next to Gavroche, at only sixteen years old. L'Aigle, who appears later, is a Bonapartist who merely wishes to see the monarchy overthrown. Leglas is the oldest, and he is not even a student. He is a workman who is unhappy with being paid miniscule wages. Gavroche is easily the youngest, at nine years old.
