They say "some people chose to stay..." while I will agree that some people did choose to stay, I'm sure there are thousands of people who didn't have the ability to evacuate. Not everyone has the funds, or family to go stay with. So many people face challenges that others don't, and have to make hard choices based on those challenges. I feel horrible for those effected by this hurricane. Praying that folks find God throughout this experience, and are able to rebuild and heal in His love! Also praying for everyone who lost family or friends in this horrific storm. 🙏

There were hundreds of shelters open for people and even volunteers to drive people to them. I'm in central Florida, and survived in my home but I wasn't under any order to leave. Still, a huge tree and power lines narrowly missed the roof of my kitchen. I don’t buy that people weren't able to leave. I’m angry that so many stayed, putting so many other’s lives at risk with their recklessness.

It's been a crazy ride last night during the storm. The house and the studio rumbled and howled praying the windows held together. We made it though. Thank God. I want to say thank you to all the utility workers that have been coming into the state to assist on getting power restored. This was nothing like Hurricane Irma back in 2017. My prayers also go out to those that are more South of us.

Yea my whole family is in Fort Myers, all of them are fine, thankfully, but my uncle’s car got impaled by a tree. He also lost his house. When my dad showed me a picture of his house, I asked where is the house and he said exactly. My uncle has only 1 item that is left, his fridge that was found 2 blocks away from where his house was.

My heart and prayers are with all of the affected Floridian. In 1999 I experienced George a Category 3 huracaine in PR. I was 15 yrs old and I thought that night we all were going to died. That horrible experience made me have a respect for mother nature. I will not take any warnings from our officials for granted. Hurricanes are serious and is best to be safe than sorry. We need help desperately….we’re drowning down here. Just a hot meal and some coffee was such a comfort to us since we haven’t eaten much since early Wednesday morning.. we can’t stay at my friends house forever so we have to figure out what we’re going to do. I have to get some normalcy back for my young son because he’ll have to go back to school eventually and he’s traumatized. His entire room and the whole house is flooded, trashed and uninhabitable. He was so upset that he lost his stereo system and video equipment but I told him at least we got away with our lives.

I’m homeless because my house is trashed and all my belongings inside are ruined. I hope FEMA is prepared because myself, elderly mother, young son and his terrified pet cat will need a place to stay until our lives can be restored and I get in touch with my insurance company to figure out what to do with what’s left of my house and where to stay. This is so sad, living is Biloxi, MS, and going through hurricane Katrina all those years ago I feel awful for them as i remember the scared feeling and not knowing if we would have a home afterwards because we did not evacuate either and road out the storm (bad idea) Ian seems to be Florida's Katrina! I hope their able to recover quickly and people who stayed are reunited with their family. This storm will leave marks on these people for many years to come as Katrina did me, now every hurricane we get big or small it freaks me out like I have PTSD from Katrina!

This storm is crazy. Now I've got to prepare just in case. It went offshore, strengthened to Cat 1, and now heading my way! I've never heard of a hurricane doing this. Usually it goes offshore and moves on.

Search and Rescue, happens every time. You get "geniuses" who decide they know better than all the weather experts telling everyone to evacuate. So they stay in place, and then professional rescuers are forced to put their own lives on the line to rescue these individuals. If it was only the elderly, or crippled who needed rescue; that would be one thing. But often times, it's the young, physically fit, and able-bodied who own cars who end up actually _choosing_ to stay in place. Those are the ones who often end up needing to be rescued.
