This is an episode of the ABC News program Nightline with Ted Koppel. I believe it originally aired on March 20, 1990. It focuses on ovarian cancer and includes a segment on Gilda Radner's battle with the disease.

34 years later, we’ve made almost no progress in detecting ovarian cancer before it’s too late. RIP Gilda Radner and all the women who have died of this horrific disease.

Well the better news is that ovarian cancer as well as other cancers, are far more detectable and much earlier. Not to mention DNA.

Susan Aach-Feldman lost her battle with ovarian cancer in August 1990, months after this interview. May her memory be a blessing.

i think when it comes to any type of cancer testing should be free of charge. if someone has a family history or the disease and they have a feeling they may have it then doctors should test. so many get turned away because they don’t show any obvious signs, but you know your body and if anything feels different or weird then you should be tested for anything and everything just to be safe.

Healthcare in all forms should be free, not privatized/for-profit. We're the only so called "first world" country where this isn't the case. If you want to pay for private insurance, so be it. But a public option must be added for those who can't afford it. 42% of the American public is already on some form of government-funded healthcare, whether it's Medicare, Medicaid or VA insurance. It wouldn't be a huge leap to just do away with these & offer M4A.

This aired 34 years ago. Still today, it is hard to catch ovarian cancer early. I was diagnosed three years ago. I may have 1-2 years left. I will fight as long as I can. You go, Gilda!
