The most alluring thing about Jodie Foster as a young woman in Hollywood for me was how she never (unlike almost everyone) was the one to suck it up to people or bite her tounge for people to like her, she has always been forthright complemented by her razor sharp intelligence. Just here, she completely shunned a reporter for bringing up Hinckley and just walked out, that definitely takes guts, especially when u are 20 something actor in Hollywood. A real winner of idgaf & a perennial legend

I don’t think she’s much different than Starling in the way Hopkins described her character: She’s trying to be brave, brilliant and match Lector’s Wit but she’s also trying not to crumble into pieces.

People should leave her alone about Hinckley. If they keep asking her about him it just means he got what he wanted. I see her as not wanting his actions to be validated or having anything to do with her which is true. If you associate Hinckley with her he got his weird fantasies to be true...

Not many years ago, I did see Jodi finally speak about it in an interview briefly. I think she felt that enough years had gone by for the public and for herself that it wouldn't be obsessed over and one of her reasons to stay silent was because of what you mention. She didn't want this man or his name getting anymore attention. She never was sure if he did do it because of her or if he made that up but it was very dark for a college student, trying to live a "normal" life to be haunted by the press, the fact that this person tried to kill President Reagan and disabled James Brady and then put her name to it. Jodi felt the best thing she could do for everyone and every aspect involved was not draw attention to herself. I felt this was very wise.

Did she know she was a lesbian even here? Has she ever been in a heterosexual relationship? I just wonder if her guardedness is due in large part to the knowledge of her sexuality and how she didn't want anyone else to possess that knowledge.
