1987 i was 15. Im 52 now and i find myself loading up on 80s playlists. I understand now when my Mom and Dad always talked about their music then they were teenagers, its not the music itself, but where it brings you back too. Instant memories when life was new, changing, exciting❤

Musically it was freakin incredible! You better believe it. I was there. It could take you to another planet--unlike today's soulless 💩 Now pay attention here. You hear choral harmony, singing that doesn't sound synthetic, call and refrain, melody, a prologue, an epilogue elements of classical, jazz, decent articulate singing. In other words you hear all the elements that make damn good r and b pop music here. Where do we hear this kind of stuff today? (2022) Back in those days there was pitch correction for the singers, but it was slight, not like what you hear today.

We saw ABC last week at The Cliffs Pavillion Southend. I can say at 64 years old Martin Fry sings and has the same charisma he had 40 years ago. He opened the show with this song - just amazing.

Tonight I saw Smokey Robinson perform at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas. (5-22-22) I now understand what this song is all about. I’ve loved this song for some 40 years. But only tonight do I understand it. His voice, even at 82 years of age, is pure magic. What a magnificent performer, song writer and singer. I finally understand why ABC wrote this song. Thank you, Reid.

Ralph Jackson Martin Fry is still out there. In fact, In June 2014 it was revealed that a dozen early tapes were discovered of rare remixes and unheard songs from ABC's first three albums. These were returned to him and he was delighted, but so far, he isn't sure what he's gonna do with them. The rediscovered songs "include a "That's It Folks!" mix of "So Hip It Hurts" from Zillionaire. From Beauty Stab, reams of early studio takes have come to light including one song, "You And Me," that never made the final album. From the Lexicon of Love era, the group's own, pre-Trevor Horne demos of "All of My Heart" have come to light, along with a reel entitled "4 Ever 2 Gether - The Outtake, Starring Martin Fry as Ken Dodd.

Just an amazing song, singing, orchestration, lyrics ... fantastic video, too. ABC is a tremendous group and of course Smokey is a living legend. Yes, agree on all accounts about the 1980's here, by far the best decade in my life, just great times: fantastic music, inexpensive rent and cars, people were nicer, no mass shootings, and no social media/internet. Fantastic. (I realize I'm posting on the internet here ...)

Martin Fry with Mark Whites’ voice blends and layers is pop elegance….suffice to it, its melody and beat is just danceably thumpy that is never fails to rouse anyone to sing along, sway along and then let When Smokey Sings endure its sound to us all! Such a brilliant song…fitted wonderfully in a seminally brilliant decade!
