I grew up in Stockton, needless to say, the gang violence is unavoidable no matter where you live or how much you try to stay away from it. My friends and I had a check list of things to go through before we decided to go to parties in high school, where’s the house, what schools are going, who’s throwing it, etc. all in a futile effort to avoid one of the many parties that end in gun fire. I lost a friend to gang violence as well, he was only 18. All I know is I will not be raising my future children there because it really isn’t safe.

Our home was shot up January 2008 on Portola Ave. In Stockton Ca. The cops did little investigation, and nothing ever happened after 24 bullets found their way into our home. Our next door neighbor Larry Roberson was at the time an active Stockton Police officer that would park his patrol car into the garage, DEA raided their home periodically. Definitely funny business was going on, and it all seemed to be swept under the carpet, not only was an officer doing funny business next door, his girlfriend that he rented the home for her kids were documented gang members. The excuse we received by Stockton PD is that it was a retaliation and they were looking for our next door neighbors,Larry Roberson's girlfriends kids. Being raised here my whole life the gang violence the gang activity was high. But in my own personal perspective Stockton PD, the mayor's and other people in high areas have added to and have helped the gang activity and Violence to continue by allowing corruption to carry on it's starts from the top.

No doubt. People don't understand how addicting is lifestyle is, is not something that people go into realizing that it has potential to become addictive like drugs. It's because of the cycle of trauma bonds that people who grow up in broken homes learn these patterns from, their brain releases chemicals when it's introduced to dramatic and traumatic situations and so individuals end up living chaotic lifestyles because there's subconsciously trying to replicate that. Their brain is conditioned to the roller coaster of dopamine and adrenaline and it's really difficult to get out of. It's not the child's fault but they end up being this way but there is personal accountability that needs to take affect. It's an unfortunate situation, especially when people get addicted to dope.

I’ve lived in Stockton all my life, 47 yrs. this is a positive story and I’m happy to hear about this program. But I see so many youngsters out here with automatic rifles and hand guns with extended clips. I’m talking about big drums attached to their guns. They don’t hide it they’re all over the internet exposing themselves yet I hear of no big gun busts. These guns, clips, and drums aren’t even legal in California so how are these kids getting ahold of them. They’re killing each other over nothing. I thought it was bad in the 80s n 90s but I think it’s just gotten worse. And to say only 15 % of families are single mother homes sounds awfully low to me. Most of Stockton is ghettos and majority of the families are single moms. The men usually have multiple baby mamas and no home of their own. Let’s keep it real. It’s nice to see people like this man featured that got straight, but that’s rare. My husband is also a success story. A firmer gang member with multiple prison terms. He’s hasn’t caught a case in 10 yrs and lives an honest hard working life today. But the father of my kid’s, he’s still on the streets, in n out of jail and has no relationship with my kids. And sadly, that’s more the norm then these success stories. This is a depressing place to live, and a hard place to get out of.

I was livin all over Stockton for years representing Modesto and comin from Airport District and Crows Landing road area of Modesto during the Norte vs Sur years , Stockton didn’t seem that different to me, I’ve been around all kinds of violence in Modesto, I’d actually say at least Stockton police respond to shootings consistently, in Modesto so many gunfire injuries n shoot8ngs go unreported
@remhk66723 жыл бұрын

Yes unfortunately many surrounding cities fear Stockton. There are some awesome kids and adults in Stockton so it is so sad that all of that is overlooked. The problem is the City at large not addressing these kids and helping more with programs. I am a retired teacher from Stockton and so proud of so many of the kids I knew working for SUSD. Even the troubled teens has a heart and I sure pray for them.

Driven up and down downtown Stockton for months for my work. The homeless problem was the worst I've ever seen in a city. Abandoned and burned down buildings with homeless people either down on their luck or just not all there mentally. Addicts lining up at methadone clinics on N California and N El Dorado and then wandering around the streets. I've never had an issue with the gangs or the homeless, just mind your own business and carry on. Though, there are instances of violence in areas I would deliver. Some people getting shot dead in neighborhoods I had just gone through throughout the weeks.

Hi Fred, I really appreciate taking the time to watch the documentary and for the feedback. While gang violence has dropped, Stockton PD still attributes 70 percent of the city's violent crime to gangs, and with homicides again on the rise, I'd say that's still pretty bad. Feel free to drop me a line at madams@abc10.com if you'd like to chat more.
