That is the most uninformed comment ever. These fires are started by the usual suspects: dragging tow chains, careless mowing, hot mufflers in tall dry grass, unattended agricultural fires, bad catalytic converters, homeless cooking fires, fireworks, gender reveal stupidity, arson, careless campers, and PG&E. CA is the perfect environment for wildfire-very dry, windy, and public forests. 46% of California's land mass is public lands (90% of that is federally owned) which are mostly forested or grasslands.

It could be arson, cigarettes, fireworks, typical campfires, lightning, homeless campfires, downed power lines, animal contacting an electric fence, rodent chewing into a line, hot parts of a vehicle contacting dry grass while pulled over to side of road, a dragging towing chain, mower hitting a rock, a train, farming vehicle/machine, even a gender reveal party.

@@22lilacsky Not saying this is the case, but In high winds an ember can fly as far as 5 miles and start another fire. Not to mention there are careless people all over the place...more than people think. Lots of fires from careless people occur this time of year on even non-windy days. But the masses don't hear about them because they don't get big and out of control. Where I live, we see it all the time...fire here, fire there, etc. I bet I can turn on my local evening news and see where 2 or 3 moderate fires occurred around the metro area today. I just drove right by a small one 2 days ago....burning between a rail line and road. There have been times where I have seen 6 separate burn scars in a 2 mile stretch of grass where homeless live. Add all of the other ways that fires can start and it is real easy for fires to break out the same day miles apart in many parts in the west this time of year.
