The next mayor of the fourth-largest American city stood on stage Monday night. Houstonians, though, will have to wait until Saturday to find out who that is.

Shelia Jackson Lee is a "status qua" politician and is without a doubt the worst choice for Mayor of Houston. She's good at sending flowers and birthday cards, but as an effective leader or even a member of the US House she's been a massive disappointment. Her plans for Houston is to retire here as Mayor and will be as one-sided as possible. On multiple occasions, she went out of her way to make a spectacle of herself in a less than advantageous and certainly dishonorable way. Issues she has nothing to do with but wanted that camera time and got it, but did virtually nothing to help any situation. She is discussing a higher tax rate, adjusting money from already required programs to her "Pet Programs". She's a one-sided politician with no concern for what actually brings in tax dollars and more businesses. It's a mistake to allow her to bring that mediocre performance history she's proven over decades to the Office of the Mayor.

@mrmiscast You provide a one-sided opinion which I vehemently disagree with. Thanks to SJL, we have at least had resources brought to us from the federal government. Abbott, during the last Hurricane in Houston, had to be shamed to tap into the Rainy Day Fund for some much-needed resources. The Rainy Day Fund was designed for such situations as this. This lame-brain Abbott actually played politics with people's lives because of a Democrat Mayor. This is despite State Senator Whitmire serving in the Texas State Senate - I might add. Now that bills have been passed at the federal level that can help Houston's transportation system, water infrastructure system, environmental injustices, and lack of technology in rural parts of the Houston area, SJL is uniquely qualified to bring those resources to Houston. Raising taxes?! Seriously? Classic Fox News talking points. Congresswoman Jackson Lee is talking about money that is currently available with taxes that have already been paid. Let's be real. Based on his record, what do you propose Whitmire will do?

I don't know what mood TSU was trying to pull off. The lighting looked like they were campaigning in a nightclub. Where they lit from a backup power supply? Students with questions look like shadows. Those low set chairs were comical. Forcing these candidates to get up and down from those chairs looked torturous and forcing them to have their backs to the camera walking back looked awkward. Do podiums really alienate anybody from their constituents. Pressuring Whitmire to shuffle Jackson-Lee's papers fallen on the floor. You can't tell me ABC13 didn't have any say. And to top it off, Jackson-Lee had a fly land on her blazer at 18:16 for almost a minute. This was an outdoor venue?

Her clothes are not nor have they ever been criteria for doing a good job as mayor of Houston. She has a PROVEN track record of producing for this city and its neighborhoods. Over her years in Congress, she has ABSOLUTELY helped bring in billions impacting this state, county & city to tackle the most critical needs of ALL of the people. I see that Whitmire is not in a tee shirt and sneakers but, is wearing a well-made (fancy) suit and tie.

He can not mention anything he has done or is willing to do to work with the Democratic County Judge or the Democratic President to bring money from the federal government to Houston - unlike Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. Exactly what has he done in 50 years? What is his record? Can he even talk about what he has contributed to the Houstonians he now serves?! Who believes that he can effectively work with this lame governor Gregg Abbott? Did his constituents hear from him during the ice freeze, or did he bring resources to them during Covid 19? Sheila Jackson Lee brought resources to Houston that were beyond the district she serves. Let's be real.
