I still remember seeing the sound bite of the first interview David and she did when the boys first went missing and susan was laughing because she was so excited to be on TV. You know, why didn’t she just give David custody instead of murdering those beautiful little boys? I can’t even fathom what those little guys went through as they were trapped and the pain of drowning and the terror they went through when no one came to rescue them. It’s so very, very sad.

Poor David. I didn’t realize how young he was when this happened. He was just 24. He went from being a normal husband and father, provider, protector to being a man who had a young wife who claimed she was carjacked and his two boys are missing in such a small southern town. He was lost. He couldn’t comprehend much of anything bc of how incredibly crazy it seemed. Then in the snap of a finger he learns his wife confessed to lying and was the reason he wouldn’t never see his kids again. He still couldn’t process it. The footage of him at the funeral broken and crying is what has been in my mind since this happened. I was little but my memaw was captivated and watched this coverage every day. When you saw him at the funeral crying he just looked so lost and alone. I imagine him as being alone during all of this. Everyone else was so worried about Susan, the media coverage, the trial, tv ratings, interviews and I just imagine him just being in the background broken and alone. Just wanting ANYONE to come over and put a hand on his shoulder or arm around him and saying “David, I’m here for you. We will get justice for you boys and make sure she pays for what she did. I know it hurts like hell but I see you, I see your pain and I’m here for you” David actually handled this much better than anyone else probably would have had they been in his shoes at 24. Bless his heart

Well, I guess so. The same thing happened in Boston in 1989 when Charles Stuart shot and killed his pregnant wife and blamed in on an African American car-jacker. The month's long investigation resulted in widespread "stop & frisk" actions by police against African American men. I believe laws were instituted because of what police did to make it illegal to perform such injustices against any members of the community. Charles Stuart jumped off a bridge to his death before he could be arrested for the crime.

It smelled bad from the get go….lots of us women were saying hell to the no that a mother wouldn’t fight and hold onto that car until her fingers fell off. Idk if you recall when they did the “sink test” and had the exact car roll into that lake with cameras mounted inside to see how long it took for the car to fill with water, and the tape being played, knowing those babies were strapped in their car seats seeing the water coming higher and higher? It was absolutely heartbreaking! The babies going through that and David having to see exactly what his boys went through was very haunting.

Those boys were absolutely beautiful and so precious. To this day I just cannot understand how she did that to her babies. It is horrifying and suffocating for the memories to come back of them pulling that car from the water. That feeling of my breath being taken away, at the thought of what those poor little boys suffered in that car as it filled with water. Being strapped in and not being able to escape. It just make me so sick. It's horrific to think about that. And that woman has not even a drop of remorse, or horror at what she did to them. She never should be released from prison. Not ever! Just like Michael and Alex had no way to escape from that car. She should never be able to escape her punishment. It seems she is not capable of any form of remorse, or even acknowledgement of what those boys suffered at her doing. I wonder if the thought has ever even come in her mind, of Michael clawing trying to get out of that car? He tried to get unstrapped. And I am positive what was in his little mind was trying to help his Brother. It just makes ya sick thinking about that. She has never once even acknowledged any of that. It's been 30 years since she mercilessly took the lives of those precious boys. And in 30 years, she has not come to have any emotion for her crime. She will never get there. If it hasn't come in 30 years, it will never come. And still using her own sexuality to get her way inside that prison. Still manipulating and conning ppl. That's just who she is. She is a broken person, and she has been broken since she was very young. There's no fixing that. And the issues she has are such that she will forever be a threat to society. She doesn't have a conscience. And she knows what is right and what is wrong, but she doesn't care. That can never be rehabilitated ever. It's just awful that those little boys had to be the ones who lost their lives, because their Mother was not capable of a natural Mother/Child bond. They deserved so much better. I will always keep David in my prayers. His Daughter sure is special. Such a well spoken, intelligent girl. I feel her speaking at the parole hearing was very profound for the parole board to hear. It showed how even after 30 years, this horrible loss of these little boy's lives, still has a lasting ripple effect. Watching this unfold on tv, from all around the world, put an everlasting mark on ppl's hearts and souls. I know I will never forget it. It was a true loss of innocence for our whole Country. God Bless David and his entire family, and what's left of Susan's family. She is where she belongs. 😢🙏🙏🙏🙏

When this story broke, I was a young nanny of little boys not much younger than the Smith boys. I had a visceral reaction to her fake tears and pleas from the beginning. Something didn't feel right. Then when it all came to light I had nightmares for months. This case informed much of my view of childcare and protection. You can't fully trust anyone to take care of a child. It was a heart wrenching revelation from someone that adored them with my very soul. The parole board definitely did the right thing, now they need to continue to do so.

I’m so glad she didn’t get out. She had so many chances to come to her senses and save her kids but she didn’t. Also she has a disciplinary file 6 inches thick from her time in prison. She’s had multiple affairs with guards. She’s been caught with drugs, done illegal interviews, etc. No way in hell she should get parole.

That’s one of the saddest things I think I have heard about this case, that David suppressed his memories of the boys to help him cope. That he saw a lot of therapist to get help the years following their passing and the trial and each one said it was his boy/minds was of protecting itself. Basically self preservation so it didn’t eat him alive and he could cope. That they all said eventually those memories would come back. However all he had are snippets of certain images in his mind. Holding their hand in the shopping center parking lot, snippet of bath time etc all he had are snippets in his minds of certainty moments with his kids. His mind isn’t ready for all of him memories to come flooding back. I hope that eventually his mind and heart will be healed enough that he can handle it and all of his memories will return. It may not happen until he’s on his own 💀bed and the very moment before he passes it all comes flooding back in an instant and he’s is incredibly happy in that last moment. That’s probably the saddest thing I have learned about this whole case
