@@user-malachihis career is fine, but people are allowed to disagree and not be silenced just because he's a sports player, he's in the spotlight, he's going to be scrutinized more than a typical person. He even reduced Taylor Swift to his teammate's girlfriend, now I'm no swifty fan, but I know who she is, a kicker for a football team, I do not. The problem with his speech is that it's more divisive language, in a country that's splintering much to politician's delight, this is more fuel for the fire. In a commencement speech, you just congratulate them on their accomplishments and end it there, they don't need to hear about his wife, his political views, none of that. He wants to talk about it, find another time and place. I do not care about a celebrity's views, any of them, but they're shoving them in wherever they can find an audience.

@@jenn9027 _"In a commencement speech, you just congratulate them on their accomplishments and end it there"_ But it's clearly a conservative university. Conservatives have faced no end of angry and often unhinged criticism and outright lies for at least the past two decades. His speech fit that context. Moreover, truth, by its very definition, is divisive. It excludes everything false. So if his words seem divisive to you, it's only because they highlight the contrast between his view and your own.

@@LP_0820 In YOUR opinion. Not every woman wants to have a traditional family. Let people live how they want to live, and don't force your opinions onto others. Also your name is dude bro, i highly doubt you're a woman. Also, sorry to say this, but with today's economy, it's practically impossible, unless the man is a millionare or has six digits, to be financially stable and have kids. Houses cost $500,000 for a house built in 1987, imagine newer houses. You expect the woman to just have no money to her name and only help with the kids while the husband is struggling to pay the bills? How's that gonna help their kids? Also careers are not the only way to find worth, he was just running his mouth if he said that because nobody said that even once. People have worth in multiple different things and have different viewpoints on what is worthy, so again, keep your opinions to yourself; nobody asked. Man was acting like he was holding a political presentation, rather than congradulating everyone for their accomplishments, yet felt the need to put down women for no reason? Also, did you know that his mom is in the medical field? To his own logic, her work was for nothing, but that said work helped her husband with the bills right? Which helped them both raise a child because they had the money to do so? The fact that he's so emasculated by his own mother is embarrassing. Not to mention the fact all he does is kick balls for a living (which he isn't even good at), so I don't know why he's running his mouth.

"Freedom of Speech" is not the argument that people seem to think it is. People seem to forget that freedom of speech is a right extended to everyone, and it means that yes, you have the right to say things publicly that others may or may not agree with. WOW, just, WOW. Well, we do have free speech in this country, thank God, so this young man can express this anywhere and at any time. As a Christian there are a few things he stated that I agree with. However, it's sad to me his statements about women, gay peoplet, aking us backwards to the early pre-Vatican II church and its traditions and "staying in your lane" philosophy. I grew up in the 1960s and 70s in the Episcopal church in Dallas, TX and while my congregation was more up to date and modern it was still pretty steeped in the Catholic tradition. I was baptized at 2 y. o and Vatican II had just been established. Our priests were. married, had families, and were absolutely wonderful men (our head priest and his wife were my Godparents). I attended a parochial school, chapel each morning (with chapel caps), mass every Sunday, children's choir, youth program, church camp and Catechism class/ confirmation at 15 y. o., I was an acolyte (first class for girls!), and had my marriage with pre-marital cou counseling. My parents are buried there in the chapel columbarium and I will be as well. Over the years my church has evolved as many other protestant denominations are SLOWLY but surely doing. God gave us a brain and I believe an open mind to new ideas and to, most of all, embrace all His children no matter who they are. Jesus taught us two main principles: love God and love your neighbor as yourself so, to not love yourself is to not love God since we are made in His/Her image. This young man is so afraid of not "staying in his lane" that he condemns those who don't. I've known people like him throughout my lifetime and I have always felt sorry for them. They are so dead set on what they perceive as wrong that they cannot see beyond their own fears. His passive aggressive and black and white attitude is what's been a constant downfall for all of us human beings on this earth since the beginning. He's not alone in his opinions and beliefs . However, those that don't hold these beliefs need to continue to speak out loudly, boldly and often if we are to love one another and survive as a species. His words smack of hatred and for this we should be both alarmed and extremely sad.

*This is LONG but IMPORTANT to understand* For all you guys saying hes right for this because its a catholic audince then your wrong. His catholic audince is made up of what I can only assume is 50% women, most of which have worked their butts off to get a 4 year degree, and now simply because they're female and catholic, He claims that the majority of them are most likely only looking forward to staying home and making babies, even though four years of their lives has been dedicated to getting a college degree, and this very moment, only to be disrespected by him. (there is nothing its todays catholic beliefs That says that women should only strive to have children even after spending four years of their life working for a a future career) therefore this was inappropriate and unnecessary for the occasion. Secondly onto the "pride" part. While being gay is seen as a sin in Catholic belief, it does not change the fact that it is not, seen as a deadly sin because all sins are equal in the eyes of God (that is a real catholic belief) Even the Catholic pope himself said that we have no right to judge because God judges for us. There was absolutely no need for him to mention them in the first place, and it was also incorrect for him to call being part of the pride community, a deadly sin, when its just a sin. Equal to all other sins. Once again making this comment homophoic, unnecessary, and somewhat extremist. Disclaimer: might have written things incorrectly or had bad grammar, sorry I guess.

I find it a bit harmful. I understand the importance of tradition and raising a family, but the amount of abused women who are totally deoendable on men is insane. It's amazing if you manage to create a family with a man that will forever love you, care for you, and cerish you, but the reality for the majority of couples is different. First of all, the cost of living is getting higher and higher, and not every man will be making enough to be able to support a numerous family. Second of all, nobody can guarantee that the man won't fall out of love and leave you for somebody else or might become abusive. I experienced abusive family firsthand where my father was abusive towards my mother and she could not leave because she was financially dependent on him. That is why I believe every woman should be able to fend for herself in case anything happens. And even if you do have the most loving husband and can be a stay at home wife/mom, your husband can get sick, lose his job, and many other things. Always be ready. And don't impose your views onto others. You have no idea what they have been through.

Number 1 he said this in a fkn Catholic school, religion puts roles and duties on men and women in fact suited to the biological realities, men lead, protect and provide, women follow the man, nurture the children and take care of the house make it a home, marrige is about roles and dutiies for the kids, we r not the same, ones not better than the other, both r better at different things, happiness is fleeting, fulfilment is the optimal pursuit. If she wants a career or pursue a hobby, she can do it when the kids r in school, but her role and duty to the infants development comes first and shouldn't be put in a day care. These traditional gender roles have ensured our survival since the dawn of time, look at every poorer country and they prioratise the nuclear family and traditional roles and religion, nowadays in the west we're too comfortable, deluded and egotistical for social constructs that dont adhere to biological reality but u conquer and control a society by distracting them on countless options of entertainment and food choices, dividing them over stupid wars, indoctrinating, brainwashing and socially engineering femnist zionist propaganda so they chase careers and this ends up destroying the nuclear family, traditional roles, religion and we've been going on a decline ever since.

@@df6148 It's outdated because it is? Women today are less likely to have children and get married, this isn't new information, so yes, this way of thinking is outdated because nobody cares about "traditional family values" when they're too broke to even rent an apartment. You think young women who are going to college want a family as soon as possible? With this economy, and the amount of men who think women only belong in the kitchen? No. Like honestly, try talking to women with the same type of mindset this man has, and see if you get any of them because I doubt you will. Times change, too bad. I don't know what to tell you.

Butker seems highly intelligent, and he put his heart into his speech. I do not agree with everything he said, but we do have freedom of speech in the USA. I only wish him the best in life. Thanks to the Youngbloods for singing the great song, 'Get Together'.

He’s speaking his mind and sharing his views. When ANYONE on the left does it , it’s celebrated. When anyone on the right does it’s not just condemned like it used to be … but all the “1st amendment for me and me only” voices start talking about consequences. One woman , the next day, even went as far as to say “He can’t say that”. Well he did , enjoy your summer

Funny how there are no laws that prohibit freedom of religion at all. Also if the Bible is okay with those being celibate, which means they don't need to be married, that proves that you don't need kids. Therefore, him talking about women wasting their time because they have no husband and kids is completely opinion-based, and not factual.

@@nonexistent2335 right, there is nothing outlawing these views. Imagine if religious people had to ever actually battle against the prohibition of their freedoms and rights like gay people did with marriage? Christians are complaining about people’s reaction to a speech, they’ve never actually had to go through any kind of fight for rights.

So instead of wishing everyone a blessed life, it was good for him to tell only the women that they spent their time for a degree for nothing because they don't have a family of their own? He could've just said God bless you all, but no, he had to make the women there feel like crap. Graduating is supposed to be motivational to go get a job and enter the workforce, not be discouraged by a FOOTBALL PLAYER. He didn't make derogatory comments. He didn't scream, go crazy, try to hurt anyone physically. Why are they so defensive? Truth be told, NO ONE cares who you love or what you do behind closed doors...do your thing, just don't put it in everyone's' faces all the time nor involve our children. That is where you cross the line. We are just as entitled to our opinion, speaking our minds & protecting OUR children as you are for wanting to be who you believe you are. they aren't your children. Ones who have parents that love them. Some of you must not have had that at home & it shows.

Because Butkner decided what he thought women graduates should be. He gave no consideratiion to what their career goals may be. He demeaned their dreams because he has a different ideology. It was rude and inconsiderate. Did he once speak about what he thought male grads should be.? It would be the same as a speaker speaking in front of the NFL telling them how thoughtless their high paid, adulation-filled career was because they weren't devoting their careers to the priesthood or world hunger or they weren't devoting their career to living and working in poor areas of the country.
