I'll be honest, I lived the first 25 years of my life believing that I needed to get a good career, get married, have kids, and then I would be happy. I spent my whole life doing what all of the adults, like Butker, told me. Then my fiance broke things off with me and I realized that I never really stopped to think about what I want for myself and what kind of man I wanted to be, I had always trusted the advice of my elders and just went on autopilot. All of this to say that getting married just to get married is a terrible idea. Not everyone's plans will accommodate marriage and rushing into marriage with the wrong partner is only going to give you more trouble. What we need to be teaching young kids (and many adults) is introspection and mindfulness. Spend time getting to know yourself so that you can be the best version of yourself possible. Then you won't have to rely on luck to get the perfect marriage or the right career because you'll know exactly what you want and what you have to offer.

Beautifully said!! This speech is stupidity at its finest. I'm married but I would ask a single person to just get married for the sake of it and be unhappy. Also women have come a long way it is absolutely terrible the way he said all women should stay home and have kids. It's a choice. Let people be who they want to be . Not every body wants the same thing. A lot of married people r unhappy.

@cindyl.57626 ай бұрын
I agree that relying on luck isn’t the way to plan your life. I think what Butker didn’t emphasize is that doing all these things must be accompanied by prayer. Changing your plans, have your fiancée break things off, and having to shift gears, was very difficult for you, I’m sorry you went through that. Getting to know yourself better and what direction you want to go is admirable. It sounds like you’re recovering from this painful time. As you move forward, ask God for guidance with your steps. You’re off autopilot now, lean on your faith to guide you as you explore. If you’re still desiring marriage, pray for that. Our paths change in an instant and it may take a lifetime or more, to see where God intended for us to be.

Unfortunately, sadly today if we want to buy a house and a car you definitely need two incomes. It's funny, because I would guess that most rich corporate CEOs who are most likely very conservative inadvertently destroyed the conservative way of living by not paying fathers a one household income anymore like they did during the 50's and 60's. Yet they are angry about why the husband and wife are both working. I say bring back the one household income salaries like it was before and I will guarantee you I will love to keep my wife at home!!! She will love it too!!!

Taking a 30,000 foot view of this, women joined the work force in earnest in the 70's so now they probably make up 45%? of the work force. Over that same time period real wages (with regards to purchasing power for food housing, cars etc not trinkets) have halved, So is it a case of twice as many people, half the wage? Also in the same time period, the birth rate has dropped below replacement. There are more brown illegal immigrants every year than there are "American indigenous" babies We are reaping the harvest that we have sown.

What a and truthful young man. He is absolutely correct My greatest blessing on this earth lies in my 3 children and 6 grandchildren. My husband and I have been married for 46 years and we treasure each of these beautiful children who are clearly God's gift to the world. My husband worked to protect and provide while I raised our children. We shared our faith in building up our family to serve our God. Once my children were in school, I became an elementary school principal and I have been blessed to serve in the Catholic system. Do not be fooled by the world. Nothing out there even remotely compares to a loving faithfilled marriage and the miracle of giving birth. Remember.....Satan hates women and children because they represent heaven. Go and make a family life for yourself when you ate young. Give up your selfish ways early in your life and ask God what HE wants for your life. Then you will enjoy the shower of blessings you cannot yet imagine. God bless you young ones. Go forth and multiply and fill the earth as you have been told.❤

This is one of the best college graduation speeches I have ever heard. Harrison Butler gave these students, about to venture out into the world, the soundest advise. Nobody says these things anymore, they just focus on success in your career. But studies have shown that he is absolutely right. The reason that technology has not brought us closer is because it takes away personal human contact. We need to be with others, not just see and talk to them on a screen, or even worse text all the time. We need to be with people, personal relationships with hugs and encouragement. Family! Family is almost a forgotten word. Family dinners are almost nonexistent for many families. Also, marriage. People say , what do I need to get married for? Marriage is a commitment to the one you love and to know that you will always be there for each other, and for your children. That’s why family life is going down, and there are so many one parent families. Either they were never married and had pre- marital sex or people jump to divorce so easily. Marriage is also something that you need to work at, because it is worth it, and it is rewarding. I can tell you from my experiences, the good and the bad, and I am 68 years old, that he has it right. If you use your God given talents to do great thing ,as Harrison said, and follow God’s words you will most likely be very happy and you will never be lonely. God tells us in the Bible, when you find the one you love (after getting to know them ), don’t have premarital sex, ( the woman could get pregnant and bring two people to marriage that aren’t ready for marriage or create single parent families or a choice to abort (kill) their baby) but instead marry the one love for you. Have beautiful children and create a beautiful family and have a happy life with God’s help and blessing.

As an atheist i commend Harrison Butker for speaking his mind and sharing his beliefs, which sound a lot better than the leftist dribble I've been fed my entire life. Being raised by a single mother has done me no favors in life. She was a horrible roll model and I'm worse off. It's been a struggle to undo the damage of not having a father figure to look up to. I believe everyone should be more upset over how hard it is to live off of one income and actually consider a one income family than the fact that a religious man spoke his mind at a religious school.

(Unpaid labor in homemaking, childcare, s*x servant, emotional labor, maid service, at home nurse) But religion has been doing this to women for centuries so it’s nothing new here.

Imagine given a speech in church & saying alotta you love to prey, but I bet most of you wanna party. It's a bit awkward no ? Even tho it was a Catholic University, it wasn't a church. It wasn't a family counseling seminar. Essentially these students just completed an educational boot camp & they wanted to celebrate & we're excited to use what they learned. Butker might as well have said; now that you've waisted your time learning, forget about it & have babies. Even the Dean had to be thinking. Woo Silver, don't negate the prep, it's our revenue. Butker forgot that he was their to connect, congradulate & assure them of the possibilities that are now open to them.

What you expect from him, you already have it with GEMINI or COPILOT ... This address was a man speaking, not a computer or a media or a program... Butker is not the type of fellow who issues the cliché mottos that you are expected. This is a man's talk not a robot's speech. Butker wants the students to raise their head and their look and their lifegoal. Unfortunately not everybody caneven understand that ... Butker is a kicker, not a licker so he kicks hard and that's so good !

CONGRATULATIONS to Harrison Butker for saying that for which worldly culture drips with derision and condescension. As the Apostle Paul said : For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. [Romans 1:16] Mr. Butker is pointing out the perspective of eternity of this mortal earthly life because "for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also". 1 John 4:16, We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. 19 We love, because He first loved us. Matthew 6:19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Brave words from a man that's multi-millionaire. If I would of had to have raised kids in this cost of raising a family, day and age, I probably wouldnt of. Now if you have a husband with engineering degree and makes 100k a year, it's doable. But what about the the guy working in the factory $50,000 a year. What percentage of Americans make over 75K? Only 12.2%.The median weekly earnings of full-time workers was $1,085, or $56,420.
@Seliz463 Жыл бұрын
Every research study has shown that having children results in the motivation to increase income. It’s not that people first get rich and then have kids. The causal arrow points the other way (providing that the person follows the SMART-template points of graduating from high school and getting married first) for financial success: the more children a man has, the more statistically likely he is to earn more. Employers have repeatedly even been shown to have a bias towards married fathers, offering them significantly more in raises and benefits than compared to childless men. So if you want to help your husband make more money, have more babies
@sitka49 Жыл бұрын
@@Seliz463 Well if they're biased towards men with children that company should be held accountable. It's discrimination! So you give a guy that has kids at home more pay and a better position because of kids? Even though he's average worker to possibly slightly incompetent because he has kids? (I know guys with kids they're nothing but Deadbeats.) I don't believe that anyway, most companies are in business to make money they don't care about your personal life at home just as long as it doesn't affect their outcome) I can tell you about a married man that I know that worked several jobs, before having kids, then he got a more (kid #1 was coming , unexpectedly) better(?) job with a company that had better benefits a little better pay ,but upon working there he found out he hated his job, but continue to work there because he had a family at home, and he needed the benefits and the money . A lot of times he thought about going somewhere else ,but do you stay with the devil I know or devil I don't ? ( Because you built your longevity, accumulated vacation benefits, and retirement) But like you said get married/ right out of high school and start working for a company for so many years you move up the ladder, but the problem was he hit the ceiling because he didn't have that piece of paper ( college diploma) need to hang on a wall that says you can do certain things even though maybe they can't. So basically you get looked over for the next position up. ( need a college degree to hold that position, because of company policy) though maybe you're more qualified than the guy that does it now. Well that guy was me. So having five kids basically got me stuck in a job I hated for 31 years. ( believe me there were times I thought about it,. When I drove into workl I could just steer my car into a tree and I wouldn't have to go to work ) Before that I thought about starting my own business but then kid number one showed up, change of plans. It made it difficult for me to think about even quitting and moving on somewhere else with a family/ dependence at home . But that's on me for not having the guts to do it.

@@Seliz463yes this is true that men benefit greatly from marriage but the opposite is true for women. When a woman has a baby it is seen as a burden by employers on her career.
