Friendly reminder that that's only true because (like with lynx and wolves and wolverines), deforestation and overhunting drove them to extinction there. New findings suggest that the UK may have had bears as recently as around the 11th century. For comparison, wolves went extinct in the 17th century in the UK. There are currently efforts being made to restore some of these species, which is amazing. ❤

In Alaska, this time of year, the snow is so deep, the moose walk the railroad tracks. Of course, trains kill them. There’s a special train that goes around gathering them and the food goes to old folks homes. Lots of meat

Not all predators will react but all predators on this earth can sense when something is afraid. That is down to insects all the way up to mammals. Humans can sense it too…unless you can fake it like these people do. They are scared shitless but they cant show that Or that bear gets alot more curious which lead to higher interest in you which eventually leads you to running and thats when you get your skull bitten. No matter what…remain calm and back up while calling attention to yourself. These ppl did the right thing other than (i assume) not having a firearm.

The bear was not exhibiting any threatening behaviours. It was content to continue foraging, which was its focus. Being able to read subtle cues from animals in the wild is key. Those hikers did all the right things.

Under those circumstances bears will mostly ignore you. They might bluff charge if you approach them or get too close, but if you back off and stay calm, their first choice is to continuing grazing.

I'm not sure what you mean by "false move." Like charging the bear? Maybe screaming at it or throwing things at it? Whatever idiot would behave that way shouldn't expect to survive in the wild. Even still, most bears will walk away, bluff charge or swat an annoying human away, depending on the circumstances.. They live in a natural environment that supports their needs, and they understand their supremacy. Violence for no purpose isn't in their DNA.

TikTok is not real life. You have as much chances of being attacked by a bear as of winning the lottery. Attacks are very rare. Also if a bear comes too close something as simple as shaking tarps or using bear spray will make them go away. Look up the number of people killed by bears and the number of people killed by dogs each year in the US. If you are not scared of dogs then don't be scared of bears.

That is a young bear. Its head is big in comparison to the body. If it was fully mature and fully developed the head would appear slightly smaller. When I was a child I saw some absolutely massive grizzlies in Denali park with my parents that had pin heads in comparison to their bodies.

It certainly means that they're no threat whatsoever, and being a bear he could take it as an offer of choosing happy meal he wants with zero fight. Authoritative voices are far more effective than a "please don't eat me Mr. Bear" voice.
