I donated marrow 1993; #4 in SB County, #486 in the US. No fanfare, just the joy of helping someone; oh and 32 gallons of blood donated too.
@maxias53 жыл бұрын
that's so awesome man! And 32 gallons, holy shit! The amount of lives you've saved, and families you've helped is insane. May I ask how long you've been a donor? And is 32 gallons in whole blood donations, or variety? I've only donated 1.5L of blood so far (little under half a gallon), but signed up to become a plasma, platelets and bone marrow donor. Currently am unable to donate though, due to the fact I am prescribed Vyvanese for my ADHD, which gives me a 72 hour 'ban' :( I hope to not need the medication in the future, because I've known since I was 13 I wanted to donate. Can't wait until I hit a milestone as cool as yours!

About 20 years ago I was a bone marrow donor. The only thing I knew was that it was a woman. I don't know who she was or where she lived. About one year later I informed if the woman was oke, if she survived. Unfortunately she didn't, she died because of an intestinal infection. I've cried for two days and my thoughts and prayers were with her family. I hope that when my time is there I have the chance to meet her. And even it's been a while she is on my mind and in my heart ❤️

My coworker is about to donate marrow and besides doing it because it's a good thing to do I asked him if there was any incentives or benefits and he said no not really. If donating blood can get you a free pint of ice cream I feel like donating bone marrow should get you free medical for a year or something. I know people should just want to donate from the kindness of their hearts oh, but if they were to incentivize donating more then I guarantee people would jump in line to donate.

The only reason why people don't volunteer for bone marrow donations are the misconceptions of having back pain for life, the risk involved, and chances of damaging your vertebrate etc... But bone marrow donations are completely safe and pain less. It is just one time activity and you could save someone's life. You body will heal in few days but your bone marrow could save years of life for someone.
