It's a direct result of who is in the political office. I know people don't like these kind of posts but I think the public has a right to know that the direct problem is to do with the mayor and city council not putting a priority into making sure the city had adequate water pressure to fight the fire itself. The mayor is trying to shift the blame to the high winds and the fact planes can't safely fly to drop water over the fire. That is true but only part of the actual problem since the fire department itself can't actually fight a fire when they don't have water pressure in the hydrants.

I know people hate to go into politics about these things, but this is a direct result of who you voted for. The mayor and city council decided to cut the budge of fire departments and on top of that the city itself knew the water pressure were down. I think the mayor is trying to shift the blame that the high winds causing water planes to not dose the fire but that is only a part of the overall problem because the fire department itself can't actually fight any fire when they can't get water from the hydrants.

What is interesting is last fall Malibu had a big fire just to the north. Infact the PP fire stopped burning to the north because it ran into the burnt up area in Malibu. 5 years ago there was a fire at the base of the mountains near PCH, on the north side of the populated area of PP. The news reporter mentioned the issue of evacuation through only one main road and showed cars backed up trying to escape the fire. Seems like the disaster planners in PP did not learn anything from these previous fires.

The entire area is surrounded by pretty thick forests that dry out quickly under the strong, dry winds that are common to the area's natural geography. Fire suppression in the past has left a pretty significant build-up of fuels (typically old wood) laying around ready to catch ablaze, and when you combine that with a significant number of buildings in close contact with one another and plenty of urban vegetation, you get some very powerful fires.

The biggest ingredient in this disaster was the wind. That wind made it chaos. Even if there was water in that reservoir, they still wouldn't be able to compete with the wind making it a fire tsunami.

If they managed the forrests over the past 10 years, the way they used to decades ago, there would have been fire breaks and far less dry debri, so the fires may not have started at all, or they would have been able to limit the spread, assuming they had enough water, which they didn't due to obviously terrible policy and poor leadership. Civilians with garden hoses in rare cases were able to save their homes even in this fire. Not having enough water here absolutely mattered, and many more homes and lives could have been saved.

Houses built of wood will burn down ive noticed where stine wals and irin railings remain when everything else is destroyed. Any new building should use materials that won't burn so readily. No there isn't. It's called a wind storm. The wind either knocked down a power poles, power lines, or something similar, which sparked the fire. Altadena lost power just before the fire started and there is a video of the very start of the fire underneath a massive power line pole. Stop spreading misinformation, when actual video evidence of the fires starting has been shared.
