Oil companies should have to pay a tax to a company that will be responsible for plugging all these the proper way as soon as the well is finished ✅
@JaeJaeG22 сағат бұрын
It blows my mind oil companies aren't automatically responsible for plugging them before they abandon them. 🤯 Insane.

Good luck getting any laws passed in our current political landscape. You hear talk of deregulation so much that it has become an abstract. The result is that ordinary people who are negatively affected by this will vote for politicians who are in the pocket of the API. Right now Trump has promised to reduce regulations on oil and gas while also cutting their taxes. That means we will have to pay more in taxes while still having to live with this. Elections have consequences. Each member of congress has a public voting record. Everyone has the ability to look that up yet no one does. They’re more animated by BS moral panic to see what is actually happening.

@claygrier467311 сағат бұрын
Not anymore since Trump’s Supreme Court struck down Chevron doctrine. Also, how is the EPA funded? Do you know the oil and gas industry already gets millions in subsidies from the federal government? You think they should get that plus more tax cuts courtesy of the incoming administration along with deregulation and be allowed to walk off without any burden?

This story has so much misinformation. News reporters, “ranchers” and calis are all experts on the oil and gas industry suddenly? No, it’s their logic of “oil companies = big money, which means I’ll try to get rich quick”, let’s be honest about it. That H2S monitor went off at 3:33 and 12:43 because she farted.

Thank you to the journalists bringing this to light and getting the info out. The government has to stop subsidizing these industries with record profits in the billions, Elon Musk included. When these corporations are raking in billions in profits and still skirt tax laws, they should be putting their own money back into their business instead of getting subsidies from taxpayer money. Giving billionaires control of our government is not the answer.

"I used to develop spill plans for Riggs on land. I wouldn't even know how to deal with this. We'd carefully assess the situation in case of an oil spill. We would consider the proximity of water, the topography (hills and slopes), and the potential impact. We would also thoroughly inspect the oil well itself and all related equipment. It's astounding that anyone would ever leave water wells in such a manner."
