Yes, Florida, born & raised is a crazy state. Though due to a high population that come to see the beach & palm trees, Florida is a very diverse state and filled with retirees in which kids follow. This was back in 80's so technology, "wrist bands" with a permanent marker for the babies last name was the norm of all states. This was and still is a quiet beautiful town on the edge of a state speings as well as some very historic sites. When people started to populate the state, they were going further down and inland to see what was available, weather, etc. Ultimately saying, yes Florida is crazy, unpredictable, tourist attraction, retiree capital yet it is more reported on/sees more press than many other states where the same occurs.

My ex-husband spent his teen years growing up in FL, and he loved it. One day, I mentioned all the weird and crazy crap that happens there, and the reputation FL has because of it. My ex was, at first, confused, saying he had no idea what I was talking about. Then he became defensive, telling me how wrong I was about FL. 😆

Caution - Spoilers ahead... At first, I thought Kim was lucky to end up in a family who was well-off, and desperately wanted a child. Now, I see she would have been much better off with her biological family. They may not have had much money, but they were clearly happy, loving, and treasured each other very much. Who Kim would be today had she not been switched is an intriguing question, indeed. She never knew the joy of having two loving, supportive parents, nor the camaraderie and deep connection shared by most siblings. Her non-biological father ruined her chances to form those deep, long-lasting connections with the Twigs. I wonder if Mrs. Mays’ biological baby’s heart defect had anything to do with her later ovarian cancer. Perhaps her eggs weren’t healthy. Her cancer was quite advanced when the babies were two, so maybe she had some cells that were precancerous or otherwise unhealthy when her baby was conceived and/or developing in her womb. I feel bad for Regina Twig. She actually lost three children - one at 6 weeks from a heart defect, her non-biological daughter at 9 years old after heart surgery, and Kim, whom she lost several times in different ways. She is clearly a remarkably strong woman, especially after everything she went through growing up. I hope she and Kim can reconcile before she passes. I’m glad Regina and her family at least received a settlement from the hospital. Money can’t replace a child or buy happiness, but it can make life a bit easier while dealing with non-monetary issues.

I was really disappointed about Kimberly's choices. She was likely influenced by her father initially but as an adult she chose to cut all ties with her bio family, which I couldn't understand. Her family was innocent and she deprived her siblings and herself of loving relationships. I do hope she can reconcile with her mom before she passes. I feel very badly for Regina having endured the loss of two daughters. Kimberly made some very selfish choices in my opinion.

@ilovenoodles74835 жыл бұрын
@@catieq5270 He is now going on 15yrs. old. How about yourself? Jesus literally healed him when he was a baby. He was born with a heart defect and I remember after I delivered him the ma (medical assistant) asked me if I wanted to bring in a cardiologist or if I wanted to just blow it off and have the regular general practitioner doctor look at him. I was absolutely stunned that they would even ask this, because duh, of course I would want to bring in the cardiologist to look at him!.... The cardiologist specialist came in to examine my baby boy and then set us up with follow up appointments. One day I was at church, (even though I was not at all "churchy" at that time) and the guest evangelist had heard God speak and say that there is a baby that was born with a heart issue and that he would be healed right then and there. This evangelist and the whole church knew nothing of me or my son at all, as this was only my 1st or 2nd time at church and I hadn't spoken to anybody really or made any friends there yet!! My son was the only one who was a match for this because God truly knows everyone's heart. ❤ Wow, literally and physically!! I took my baby son up to the altar so he could get prayed on and also the laying on of hands by firm believers, just like the Bible instructs, and we prayed on him. He received his healing!! The next time we went to his appointment, the cardiologist doctor that had been monitoring him since birth, had said that his heart is really good, there has been no change since birth and it has *not* got worse and that his condition actually got downgraded to a "very mild" condition and that it didn't even sound or look like he ever even had a problem to begin with! Echocardiogram and all!! Praise God! We still see the doctor but the doctor now wants to see him only once every two years to just monitor his condition and evaluate *if* there has been any changes. God is truly a miracle worker and *_VERY_* kind, loving and merciful!! All praise, glory and honor be to Jesus Christ, who our Lord and Savior, who is our real God!!❤🙋🙏❤👼 Never give up on prayer and never give up faith in Jesus.

When my mother was about four months pregnant with me her OB/GYN found out that I had a heart condition and recommended that she transfer to University of Maryland because they had recently received a grant for fetal and pediatric cardiology. A lot of babies can grow out of their heart conditions, I did not. had my first heart surgery at 6 months old and received my first pacemaker. In total, I’ve had 12 heart surgeries and two spinal surgeries. I’m now 29 years old and am doing well. I know that God was the one who helped the doctors, my parents and me survive.

The Mays were vile monsters. They stole that baby. Only 2 caucasian babies were born that day and one was a sick baby. There's no way the staff and Mays just forgot that her baby was sick after having her for two days and after Regina noticed the difference. I haven't found any footage of Bob mentioning his biological daughter, it's like he already knew. Then he went on to attack Regina. The Mays should have been criminally investigated. @mssmssmssmss5 жыл бұрын
I commented somewhere else but can't find it. Anyway, I read that Mr. Mays took a polygraph test and passed, so the blame for the switch could not be placed on him. Grandparents? Nurses who said nothing for many, many years? The deceased doctor? It is hard to say now, as so many people involved have passed away and can not respond any further. I think that having so much done publicly while Kim was a young teenager was a serious mistake. Counseling for all, in confidence, might have helped. Kim has had such a messed up life because of all that, I am saddened to hear people wonder what her life would have been like if she had not been switched, because it is impossible to separate it out.

@@laurieginsburg5051 Well, the part where Adult Kim is now admitting that Bob Mays was in fact abusive to her is NOT omitted. It's near the last segment and in the part that ABC conveniently did not upload here. And all that points to his character. The circumstantial evidence against Bob Mays, and his first wife, being complicit is compelling. Like another poster commented, there are numerous other articles & some other interviews going years back. He said in an older interview I saw that he did. This story was so biased towards one side. Bob never got to meet his biological child. His wife died a horrendous death when Kimberly was hardly a year old. Kim was everything to him and his focus was on Kimberly during the Twiggs ambition to take her away but he did go to Arlena's grave. By contrast Mrs. Twigg hardly spoke of Arlena again but to tell Kimberly that she was Arlena and that Kimberly was dead because they took home the wrong child.

Ms Twigg knew she was given the wrong baby on day three. She should have stood her ground and demanded the matter be looked into even if it meant calling the police. And why all the speculation of whether the switch was intentional, of course it was on purpose! Even 30 years ago newborns are labeled before they leave the delivery room. I don't get Kim's flip floping and did Regina' s marriage end because of the drama?
@heathergraham25815 жыл бұрын
Regina didn't get too much into detail about her marriage except to say she didn't really want the divorce but I guess it was needed? She left it at saying many people have a marriage break down over the loss of one child, but they lost 2. Yeah, I don't get why so many only think about Regina in regards to noticing the baby looked off on the third day. What about the Mays, they would have had their baby 3 days longer than the Twiggs and people honestly believe they just innocently walked out of the hospital on the same day with a much bigger & healthier baby? No questions asked by them? I don't think so. Kim likely had a dysfunctional relationship with Bob Mays, her legal father. I think Adult Kim is telling the truth when she says as a child, the treatment was just "normal" in her world. The second wife, Cindy, whom Bob divorced, provided her own testimony regarding the abusive treatment towards the little girl. And she witnessed that before the switch came out. I don't even think the divorce from the Twiggs was Kim's idea, I think she was just going along with what her father wanted. And he wanted to put an end to the visits. She was a young teen & I think all the media focus was too much for her. Unfortunately, this is why courts have to be very careful when making such permanent life altering decisions even if the child, or a young teen, is saying they want no contact. Case in point, Months later, she was back to wanting to live with the Twiggs again after running away.
@raephaelemasirnille57945 жыл бұрын
@@heathergraham2581 I agree with a lot of your points. The Mays had to know about the switch. I don't see any other explanation for the switch. And I also agree divorcing her parents was not Kims idea. This situation is so sad. I understand, according to Kim, that there was friction in the house with het siblings but she is an adult now. I hope she reconciles with her mom. If her siblings still have a problem so what. She does not have to see them to be in her mom's life.
@heathergraham25815 жыл бұрын
@@raephaelemasirnille5794 Yeah, Kim actually confirmed that the divorce idea was passed along to her as a suggestion made by their lawyer at that time. He told her about the little boy who was divorcing his biological mother and said it was an option. So she just said fine and went along with it. But then there is a clip of Bob Mays on Barbara Walters back in 1993 lying and saying Kim came to his wife Darlena first with the idea, then to him. And then he told her to really think about it because she would be divorcing the entire family, not just Ernest & Regina. To which she replied "daddy, they're all part of it." 🙄 Yeah, okay Bob. Kim has said she got along very well with her eldest sister. She said there was alot of resentment over Regina putting so much attention on her & the switch. I definitely think that was part of it but, unfortunately, the Twiggs endured alot of harrassment because of the divorce hearing and the things Kim & her father were saying. Kim was on the stand saying she didn't love any of them, Kim's legal team even hired a psychiatrist to try & say Regina Twigg was an unfit mother (ie. The nerve of Bob Mays when her attentive mothering is what kept his own biological daughter alive for almost 10 yrs), and then Kim basically got on Barbara Walters and said the same thing: that she wanted nothing to do with any of them & that Regina Twigg was lying about Bob Mays beating her & calling her names. Now Kim has just admitted that was true. This poor girl at 14 was a nervous wreck & clearly exhibiting signs of abuse and being coached for that interview. I do understand how the other siblings could have felt resentful. Their family was put through hell & the ringer with the media. But I would hope now as adults, they could have a better grasp on Kim's abusive past & understand how she was manipulated into alot of that. She was unfortunately attached to a dysfunctional parent & environment for a long time. I hope they can maybe forgive and move forward with her too. Regina & Kim have said they are both open to future reconciliation with each other so that is something good to come out of it at least.

An eerily similar plotline happened on the soap opera Guiding Light in the 70s involving the character of Phillip Spaulding, whose birth parents were Justin and Jackie Marler, but was raised by Alan Spaulding, who ran a major company started by his father. Alan was a very manipulative person who wanted everything his way, and interfered in family business. Alan and his first wife Elizabeth, had a baby that died while the Marlers' had a healthy son. Alan paid the hospital to switch the babies, because he didn't want his wife to suffer a mental breakdown if she learned their child died, and it wasn't until years later Phillip learned the truth. No doubt the switch affected Phillip throughout his life on the entire run of the soap, and was estranged from Alan at times, but at the end, Alan saved Phillip's life before Alan died by being a match for a bone marrow transplant for Phillip.

Why didn't the Twiggs ever pursue Bob May's DNA to test it against Arlena's?
@kathyyoung17745 жыл бұрын
Arlena had been buried.
@heathergraham25815 жыл бұрын
It was confirmed later. The Twiggs only found out because of Arlena's heart condition. She was being prepped for surgery and blood work was drawn. It was not a match to them. The DNA test that followed confirmed it for sure. Arlena went in for surgery and didn't make it. This all transpired between May of 1988 to August 1988.

What always upset me about this case is that the Regina Twigg knew before Arlena died that she was not their biological daughter. The Twigg's had barely buried this child that they raised for 9 years when she went after finding Kimberly and of course, any parent would do the same. You would want to know where your biological child was and if they were safe but Regina became obsessed and lost perspective. She acted as though Arlena had never existed and as though she didn't have other children to look after. It doesn't matter who was responsible for the switch, Kimberly was not! She was a little girl who only knew her Daddy. For years Regina Twigg tried to get custody and visitation rights, tried to make Kimberly choose between her and her father. And when Kimberly couldn't take it anymore Regina Twigg said in court "Kimberly is dead. You're Arlena!" To this day Regina seems more obsessed with seeing Kim than anything else. People wonder why Kim doesn't care to burry the hatchet but this woman messed with her mind and childhood and privacy until there wasn't much left to salvage. Kimberly May's was not and is not property! She's always been a person who paid the biggest price for this switch :(
@raea35884 жыл бұрын
@Will Twigg Public records, interviews by Regina Twigg, court tapes, extensive research and how about common sense? This wasn't about Bob Mays and it wasn't about Regina Twigg. It should have been about a child not a property settlement!
@raea35884 жыл бұрын
@Will Twigg Kimberly Mays and her family lived it too. Sometimes it's hard to be objective when you've lived something directly.
@raea35884 жыл бұрын
@Will Twigg Stop. When you put yourself on the news and do interviews, a book, an ABC documentary that is very biased towards one side there will be viewers who are going to say "Wait. There was another side. Another child and another family." I know I don't know it all but I do have my opinion. There are thousands of mes that you have seen and will continue to. Everyone has a story and with it comes naysayers. But despite my being so bold, I do happen to have compassion for your position and your family. It's not easy to when you keep going after me and your biological sister's family with such animosity. No, You don't know me but you want others to take the "Twigg" side when you behave that way towards those you did know? I understand the need to stand up for your family and I'm sorry you've had to come up against judgement for so long. I truly am. But you won't find peace hanging out here and trying to come up against those who have an opinion that differs from your real life experience. I hope you do find that peace. I hope your family finds peace. I also would appreciate it if you didn't reply to me again. I was not rude to you.
@Godstrumpethetraffickorder11112 жыл бұрын
Here's the thing the biological parents of the little girl with the severe heart defect were fully aware they had been told in the hospital that their child had a severe heart defect. They quickly knew the child they had taken home wasn't theirs. As that child never died at their home without specialised care for a severe heart condition. Also the baby girl they took home never presented with symptoms of a severe congenital heart defect, for which they never had to give specialised medical attention for.. They were selfish for putting the other family through the loss of their healthy biological daughter while abandoning their severely ill biological daughter for another couple to keep alive and love in place of them. Totally ungreatful. Almost as if they didn't care if their very sick biological daughter lived or died without the specialised medical attention for which they could afford to provide her with.. Had the biological Mother of the sick daughter hadn't died of cancer she could have had a second child that might have been born healthy. It's like cancer was karma for the swap of stealing another woman's healthy biological daughter. While refusing to provide love and intensive health care they could afford to their own biological child.
@raea35882 жыл бұрын
@@Godstrumpethetraffickorder1111 I've never heard it said, at least not with any evidence, that the May's knew or were told that the child they gave birth to had a heart condition. Only that a nurse who worked there has come forward and said that she was told by a doctor that if she wished to keep her job, she would switch the babies. Her own child had leukemia and she needed the health insurance to make sure that her own child didn't die. So, the nurse did as she was told. Do you believe this nurse's child had cancer as a result of karma too? We can cast blame right and left but nobody dies the horrific death that Mrs. May's did out of punishment! Was Arlena's death some sort of karma because her parents knew that she wasn't biologically theirs before she died and yet they kept this secret then and chose to upheaval Kimberly's life forever and act as though Arlena never existed because she was now in the ground? NO! It was all a very sad. We will never know x-y-and z exactly what happened in that hospital but how the Twiggs handled it later can be summed up in 7 words "It didn't have to be that way." Arlena was going to die and she went home with the wrong parents. And regardless of whose fault that was, those parents made another child, a living child, pay the price!

I swear obviously white women (ie: Karen's they go after their own too) have been crazy for a long time and getting away with the drama they cause. Kimberly as a teenager obviously was manipulative and was old enough to know exact what she was doing she was just playing one side against the other. Then decades later she turned on everybody?? She proof that some personality issues are genetic, Regina is bat looney. I feel sorry for the girl that died makes you wonder what that little girl went through and why she didn't thrive too bad no one bothered to look into he short life. This ABC full story is nothing like the movie. (Link below) Why the whole show is not on KZbin is interesting???? Also. Why does 20/20 slant more to the Twiggs, they should be unbiased. Who is to say that the call/car was Barbara it would have been easy enough trace a car whether it was hers or a rental no one did so why accuse a dead woman. I still think it a nurse screw there are nurses and doctors that are sloppy and screw up otherwise malpractice sites would not be a thing. Kimberly was a teenager Dad properly tried to reign her behaviour in she didn't like it ran back to the Twiggs did not get what she wanted there and went off the rails - stripping, have skid marrying too young and lying all the way to get what she wanted. Only white women get away with this crap, it is not a rave thing but it is, Really how much money has been wasted in court over a white woman lying???? When was the last time you heard of 2 black babies getting switched and it turned into million dollar lawsuits and years in court?? Yeah not going to happen, just FACTS. abc.com/shows/2020/episode-guide/2019-11/29-switched-at-birth-or-stolen
