I pray for his continuing to atone and to be a better person and I also pray that his victims have been able to live a beautiful life. I do feel often times there’s a gray area where there are people who understand that they have these impulses and they want to get help, but there’s nowhere to go and no one to turn to. Him admitting it to me felt like a cry for help because those who don’t want to change that about themselves NEVER expose that! He didn’t even get caught, he willingly admitted it. That’s the first step. I saw a documentary years ago about a guy who said he had an attraction towards kids, but he had never acted on it and he was trying to shine light in this documentary about how he had nowhere to turn and didn’t know who he could go to for help. That was the first time I saw things from a different perspective. I thought to myself how horrible it must be to be afflicted with the evil inside of you and you try to control it, but if you come out and tell people you run the risk of being branded for life even if you didn’t act on it or people treating you differently and not wanting to come around. I thought that must be really hard, and don’t get me wrong I don’t want people to think that I am siding with the perpetrators because I’m not. I just want to truly understand. I think the more that we can learn from people who are willing to speak up that are perpetrators and that are victims the more that we will learn from their experiences.
