@proudtobeageek959 жыл бұрын
Vendetta V That is completely different. What you're describing is statutory rape. What they're talking about here is clothes and culture. There will always be parents, and there will always be teenagers pissing their parents off by doing things that their parents' culture deems scandalous. Do you think parents in the 20's approved of their daughters dressing like flappers? What about the 50's with all of the hip swiveling that Elvis started? Do you think parents approved of the twist? Or the big hair, sex symbol styles of the 80's? This is how it goes. Style changes, culture changes, teens change love it and change with it, parents HATE it.
@proudtobeageek959 жыл бұрын
+Vendetta V No, you really can't "grow a child" (I believe the phrase is "raise a child") that doesn't give a *damn about pop culture because culture is what shapes us. I hate to break it to you, but culture made you who you are. Culture made me who I am. Culture shapes you, and there's really no denying, it avoiding, that. Even if you took your family away to live as hermits in the woods, that then becomes your culture. Living in the 21st century civilized world, this is what culture is. *Clothes are just that, clothing. Pieces of fabric. You still can't compare that to even alcohol because people don't die because of clothes. No one puts on a skimpy dress and promptly drops dead. You're trying desperately to grasp at comparable examples to prove your point, and failing miserably because there aren't any.
@proudtobeageek959 жыл бұрын
Vendetta V ....do you even know what the term" pop culture" refers to...?
@proudtobeageek959 жыл бұрын
Vendetta V No, because nothing your saying makes any sense. You keep contradicting yourself. Yes, people use clothes as expression, but people also use clothes for self esteem. People should be able to dress in what makes them feel good about themselves, end of story. Now, yes, places like schools and work establishments have dress codes to portray a sense of professionalism, but to tell a person that they cannot dress how they want on their own time is archaic and ridiculous.

lol yes u are 14, for sure. When a lady of the night stands in the corner selling kisses she dresses provacatively; wearing revealing and sexy clothing often accompanied by highheels or tall boots. They dress this way to show their customers that their breasts are nice or their legs, whatever. When u wear a low cut top u are 'advertising' your wares to attract a mate. This is why adult women dresses sexy. This is a problem for teenagers and preteens because at this young age the child is unable to interpret the advances of men this type of clothing encourages. This leads to children ending up in confusing and uncomfortable situations. Sometimes the child ends up in abusive situations.

This is the stupidest news report ever. If girls want to dress a certain way, who the fuck cares? The way you dress has nothing to do with their personality, or if they're sexually active. It means they like to dress a certain way.
@BlondeVanity10 жыл бұрын
It's a whole issue of whether it's too soon for them to wear certain clothing, is it ok to sexualize a child? I don't think many would say yes, and this is the debate if something is appropriate too soon
@madisonadams904810 жыл бұрын
Why? Well, last time I checked, these girls are minors. And until you are not a minor, you should, logically, not dress as someone who is over 18. The reality is that weather you like it or not, you are portraying an image when you dress a certain way. Odds are you are not over 18, because the ones upset about these kinds of things are the kids that are not allowed to dress this way. And to be blunt, a 12 year old walking around in a pushup bra and skin tight mini dress is disturbing. I am 17. I get the annoying parental bickering that goes on. But if a girl dresses like a slut, the people who see her are going to automatically think that she is, what she is portraying. And if you are that, fine. But if you aren't, don't get angry when people think you are easy. And in no way shape or form should someone that is not an adult do something like that, it. is. not. ok.
@babsseed516810 жыл бұрын
Madison Adams Could it be that they simply like to dress that way because it's the style they've adapted? If people really assume a twelve year old is easy, then it's not the child's fault. It's the people who assume that because a child is wearing a dress or a bra that means they're sexually active. Clothes do NOT indicate what you do with other people. Unless you are wearing a shirt that says "I HAVE LOTS OF SEX" then people should not be assuming thing about your sex life. Especially one of a child's.
@geekgonechic179310 жыл бұрын
Babs Seed Whether you like it or not people judge others by looks, and their is NOTHING that can change that. If a 12 year old dresses and looks like a 18 year old people will assume they are that age. Most (not all) 18 year year olds have had some sort of sexual encounter, so if some sees said 12 year old they will stare because they assume they are of age. It has to do with dressing your age. You only get to be young for a short period of time, then you just get older and older, why speed up the process?

My little sister literally hates showing skin or wearing anything that is too revealing or too tight. Even I try talking her into getting into the whole concept of "keeping up with fashion" but she clearly doesn't care about it. I'm so proud to know that she knows who she is and is comfortable with her style rather than to try and be more like others. Half of the time she looks like an homeless person. What gets to me is that, most people or friends she hangs with look older and dress like 18-20 yr old ( when in reality are 13-14 yrs olds)and yet she wouldn't change a thing to fit in. I am not hating on anyone, not even hating on her friends. Just super proud of my sister for simply being herself. Learning new things everyday, even from young people.

If boys wear the same style of clothes that adults wear they are praised for looking so grown up. Adults think boys look responsible in adult clothes. Sight a girl wearing more grown up clothes and no one is thinking about how mature they look. I perceive a problem with double standards, probably starting with teaching our boys respect. I think the problem is that while girls often view boys with sexual thoughts in mind, they do not often force the sex act upon them, and there in lays the reason we curtail girls, hoping our boys will not be tempted to abuse. We all accept these double standards, which are in reality not far removed from the Arab nations.
@threedragonstalk21236 жыл бұрын
The reality is that adult clothes for males don't usually sexualise them much, while adult clothes for females generally do. Hence why it's not uncomfortable to see a young boy wearing adult clothes whereas a young girl doing the same thing is disturbing. If a 12 year old boy wore an explicitly sexual outfit, he'd get the same shock and disapproval, that's just much rarer

I can't believe some of these comments. That girl looks like she's dressed for a cocktail party and she's in middle school. Even though some make the argument "clothes shouldn't be an excuse for rapists and pedophiles" (which is understandable) that doesn't mean it should be acceptable for 12-year-old girls to dress like they're 21. There's a reason 8-year-olds don't walk around in g-strings. A lot of the people on here defend these girls but bash Toddlers and Tiaras for oversexualizing children, even though it's virtually the same thing.

My mother would always tell me and my sister when we were growing up that the way you dress shows who you are. So if young ladies especially dress inappropriate like showing their cleavage and their hips the only that means is that they want to entice boys or men.
@unusunus46136 жыл бұрын
Emilio Maurice Your mother sounds terrible... For starters she's assuming women who dress in any way that could be seen as sexual do it for men AND she's saying its "inappropriate" to show any cleavage or to have any tight clothing.... So by her standards if I wear skinny jeans it's not because I want to feel good about myself it's because I want to "entice" men? Thats so fucked. You should just wear traditional Islamic clothing for women. Don't show your hair cause you're inducing men! Don't show the natural shape of your hip that can't be hidden fully because you're enticing men! Your mother should be teaching you that men isn't the priority when it comes to women and what they wear. She should be teaching you that your clothing doesn't make you who you are as a person. She should be teaching you that men are accountable for their own actions.

These comments are pissing me off. A lot of these girls are talking about how "the girls in their school are 'slutty'" because they dress a certain way. How the hell does the way you dress affect how many sexual interactions you have? Girls I barely know that dress differently than me call me a slut or a whore all the time based off my appearance and I'm a virgin. Please learn the definition of 'slut'. Also, all the girls explaining how other girls dress and then bashing them, why do you care so much? I don't give a shit how you dress. You can wear LBD's or neon jeans & band t-shirts and I won't make any judgements on you because of the way you dress. You like what you like, your outfit doesn't affect me whether I would wear it or not.
@hollypattersonwriter10 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I dress sexy too, but it doesn't mean I am a whore! People need to stop judging people's appearance and look at what's inside. I have no idea why people link what you wear to who you are because it really doesn't define a person. And if people think that then they are very shallow.

how about teaching boys that obectifying women is wrong, instead of girls not to dress how they want. Yes, I realize that some of those dresses were too mature for those girls, but society only made them too mature because boys will undress girls wearing it with their eyes. If it's 80 degrees out, I should be allowed to wear shorts, a tank top, or a bikini without guys making sexual remarks. If it's 20 degrees out, I should be able to wear leggings or yoga pants without being told that my butt is too noticable in them, and that I can't wear them. Highschools and Middle Schools should be having assemblies called "Don't Rape," but no, I had to sit through a 2 hour assembly called "How to not get raped." If those girls feel confident in a tank top dress, than hell, let them wear it. Leggings and tight muscle shirts are the same material. Muscle shirts on guys: allowed. Muscle shirts or leggings on girls: completely inapropriate and asking for rape. Nobody asks for rape, however clothing is a completely valid and cceptable use for violating a girl and forcing her to have sex.
@bobsandy71569 жыл бұрын
Sure blame guys... guys don't judge girls at the beach. You wanna know what girls judge guys on cars, house, money, clothes, weight, height. Not to mention girls have the final judgement in divorce court for children and money. My friend is being denied to see his child because his ex wife thinks he is "unfit" to see him and the court says well we will trust her judgement. But noooo just blame men.

I'm sorry but this is just ridiculous. I agree that objectifying women is wrong and that a portion of the population does this, but recklessly blaming men for what you are able to wear is absolutely insane. Are you honestly worried that your clothes will cause you to be complimented by a guy? How would you ever know if someone is into you if you can't compliment them? This is part of the reason why it is hard for some guys to approach girls, because they are worried someone will respond just as I imagine you would. Also you say that there should be "Don't Rape" assemblies for adolescents(i'm sure you mean males). This is a pointless argument as the people who rape aren't of sound mind. An assembly isn't going to prevent a psychologically unstable person from raping someone. It is wise for women to be educated in ways to protect themselves from these people.
@deactivated-789367 жыл бұрын
The problem isn't that adults and parents don't want you to wear what you want. It's not about controlling you at all. It's about the fact that when you wear "sexy" stuff, you are at risk. Creepy old men will follow you on the street or stare at you from afar because you're a young girl wearing something "sexy". I see it ALL THE TIME when I'm at the mall, and it's scary because these young girls don't even notice it's happening. Just be careful. Guys your age aren't the only ones looking at you.

Okay. I'm 12 years old myself and we're all hitting puberty. We DO understand and realize the sexualization, but we wear what we want to wear and what makes us comfortable with ourselves... 12 and 13 year-olds are hitting puberty and maturing now, and when you were around 14-15-16 ish you were doing the same, wearing outfits we'd like to wear now. Times have changed, and if you don't understand that, you can't shame us for wearing things we like to wear.

Okay no, no. I'm 24 years old, female, and when I see little 12 year olds walking around the mall in booty shorts, white tank tops with black bra's showing and full on make-up, it's disgusting. It's disgusting because you're children. You're literally children. You're too young to do absolutely everything, you can't even get a job. When you're 18 and ACTUALLY aware of what you're wearing and how it looks, you'll understand. This is not a subject you can ever hope to understand at your age. I'm aware you're going to get huffy and try to tell me that you 'do' understand, or maybe some other child will come in and say they 'do' understand, but you don't. You absolutely do not. And the fact that you think you do just proves that. Revealing clothes are not appropriate for your age group and it never will be.

Seriously though, those clothes that the girl was wearing was ok, except the black dress. I honestly think that Adults and parents think the clothes are too mature for us 12 year olds but they didn't grow up in this time. Clothes ae a lot more different. I'm 12 and I actually get disgusted when a 12 or under wears a full face of make up. And I feel that a lot of adults think we are stupid and that we don't realize about the stuff we put on but really, we do. We understand that its mature but they just want to be older. And all those clothes are trendy and that's what normal tweens wear. Iif a 12 year old is purposefully showing her bra or wearing booty shorts in public, then that's a problem. People expect us to wear flower dresses and stockings but that's literally for 8 year olds. We are almost teenagers and we are trying to find out who we are.

We have 2 kids, 11 yr old boy and 9 yr old girl. I will soon be dealing with puberty for both, it has already started, for both. I don't put all the responsibility on my daughter though, she respects her body and embraces every part of being a female but we also have taught our son to respect women, he too has a responsibility to act appropriate towards girls/women. Our son watches his father open my car door, and also lead me into a room, etc... He does not expect women to ONLY cook & clean. he knows both women and men are to be treated equally, he has a healthy balance in that respect. If parents taught both girls and boys what's expected of them now and in adulthood, we would not have so many problems with teen pregnancy, bullying, etc., it's a shared responsibility.

I think this sort of clothing is fine if the girl is 16+ but when you see girls around 12 that are barely dressed it is awkward to say the least. I don't know why the parents let their little girls dress in skimpy shorts and crop tops, I'm not saying they need to dress like a nun, but there is such a thing as too revealing for a kid
@samanthamorrison71579 жыл бұрын
I am OBSESSED with crop tops. I think plain shorts that end above the knee are the ugliest type of pants ever I love short-shorts (not booty shorts). Guess what? I'm 12. If I looked less like a 15/16 year old I don't think they would look as good on me and I wouldn't wear those types of things, but I think they're cute AF and they look good on me. I also wear knee/thigh high socks, sometimes with oversized sweaters, but mainly with dresses. Black is one of my favorite colors. I don't think tweens focus on being sexy or anything, I just think they feel, look and act more mature and don't realize what they're wearing is considered edgy/sexy. I do think that super short black dress was a little...exposing, (idk if that makes any sense haha) tho.

laclochard WOMEN should be allowed to wear what they want as in 18 or older if you're still relying on your parents to buy your clothes then they need to respect their parents clothing decisions and critique
@laclochard8 жыл бұрын
I am not 'blaming the other gender'. As you say, boys wouldn't disrespect someone unless they are they taught like that. I am saying that parents and society should be conscious about the ideas that we are transmitting to our children. That will educate them on which behaviours are right and which ones are not. I agree with your idea that we should also think about why some little girls apparently feel like they should dress some way or another... -that's another long stoy- And boys also feel like they should dress in a specific way, but based on the gender roles that learn because that's what they see or what we tell thell them. For example, who says a skirt is something that boys shouldn't wear? It's just a piece of cloth and we should understand that it's only the culture that we inherit and keep building every day which teaches them about those things. Maybe it is too late for some of us to get in our head some ideas but we should try not to make the generations to come to keep having ideas that could be harmful. I think it shouldn't be too difficult to make little boys and girls understand that a girl is not a 'slut' just because she is wearing some short skirt or whatever. No one says a boy is 'slutty' for what he wears. Do we want girls to be unable to be as creative as free as they should be just because the older generations were raised to search for 'dirty' and 'impure' stuff in girls and women? And do we want our boys to be lectured on absurd gender roles just because they want to wear some pink clothes or do we want to raise them free and maybe lecture them on, I don't know, how to be a good person instead? We should all evolve already.
@gravelroad12288 жыл бұрын
laclochard You can't change nature, I am sorry. It's your fault you wear skimpy clothes, not the boy's fault they like it. If you don't want the boy's attention, don't show your butt. Boys are not lectured on this because they don't wear skimpy and slutty clothes. They wear loose pants or long shorts, a NORMAL shirt, and underwear that doesn't show off their entire butt.

Girls dressing their age is not society shaming a females body. Wake up and get off the brainwashing mainstream media. 12 year old kids don't need to walk around half naked and dressing like a 25 year old, it has nothing to do with freedom of expression. Grow up.
@hannaha69789 жыл бұрын
TechN9neAddict actually it is about expression and rights. You yourself just said "12 year old kids don't need to walk around half naked and dressing like a 25 year old". The only reason that people consider showing women's skin to be an adult thing is because people sexualize women's bodies. Legs, breasts, arms, shoulders, etc have no sexual purpose. The only sex organs are the vagina and penis (and debatably the anus I guess) so unless someone is whipping one of those out their shouldn't be an issue. Like seriously, there are still tribes in which both men and women of every age do not wear anything but a short skirt like article of clothing and no one there sees it as a big deal. A lot of the idea of covering up just comes from religion.

A lot of these clothing options for girls are becoming harder, and what I mean by that is when I was a tween going shopping I couldn’t find anything decent to wear for school in the tween section because a lot of the clothes broke my school’s rules, I’m glad to have grown out of that section. I always found it hard to find pants with good pockets on them in the young girls section, and I admit I sometimes had to go to the boys section because of how ridiculous it was. Also if your a band or orchestra kid do you know or relate to how HARD it is to find PLAIN BLACK CLOTHES in elementary-middle school EVERYTHING had sparkles and #’s on them and when you spotted what looked like a plain black dress....NOPE (believe me I even looked at the uniform section, no black just beige, white, and khakis)
@PinkAgaricus6 жыл бұрын
I still shop in the Mens section til this day...just due to general sizing of clothing in the womens departments. (I like waist and inseam measurements rather than those random number labels) I bet the Beige, White, and Khaki only works if the band/orchestra uses those colors though...when most do use black.

I get where parents are coming from on some things but at the end of the day shielding your children from stuff that they'll inevitably learn about is the worst approach ever. It's time that we started teaching children about real life things such as sex, dating, sexuality, drugs, alcohol and peer pressure because if we don't it'll do more harm than good when they grow up and don't have a clue about anything because we've been too busy telling them they're too young to understand anything. Kids are a lot smarter than we perceive them to be and will eventually get curious. I know that if I was a parent I would rather teach them than have the Internet teach them. I'm not saying let your kids go out and sleep around but by keeping the subject taboo they will go out and do that because they've been told that it's a bad thing that they aren't allowed to do rather than have explained to them about safety, the dangers of it and when it's the right time. Parent your kids how you want they're yours after all however I think there is a right approach and a wrong approach. That's just my opinion. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone and feel free to disagree with me.
@fatoumfatoumeh8 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right. I think the best time to give kids the 'sex talk' (and everything else drugs, alcohol, etc) is before they are even interested in it, before they get a chance to learn about it from their friends or the internet or even school. Sex-ed should come from the parents first, before anyone else. That way the kids can't use sex (or drugs, etc) as a tool for rebellion or see sex as some kind of exciting taboo or 'forbidden fruit' that needs to be acquired. In my family, my parents, spoke openly about sex and were open to answering any question we had, they didn't talk about it like it was something dirty or shameful. I was the one who had to shut them up because I didn't want to hear it lol. And I turned out fine, better than fine, I've never felt the need to dress provocatively or had the urge to be 'sexual' just because...it's all boring to me, it was never 'taboo', I'd much rather read books back then or climb trees. We had other taboos that I ended up getting involved with lol. Most of these promiscuous kids you see today are just acting out.
@caitlinisonragemode79318 жыл бұрын
I agree, schools and parents try to keep 10-12 year olds in the mind of 6 years old and that's probably more hurtful, we want to be our self and you as a parent have to give us a little bit of freedom.

I just really hate those mom's that want to control their daughters life. Let her do her own style as long as it's not too inappropriate and not against the school dress code it should be fine. Steven Blake How old are you? Adults love to act like teenagers are stupid and don’t know anything about the real world when we do. The internet lets us have access to literally anything. We know current events, and what’s happening in our world today. Teenagers are smarter than adults when they were teenagers. As of right now, we are the smartest and most innovative generation. We are learning more, doing more, and realizing the importance of things faster. We are training to be engineers, doctors, scientists and so much more. But adults love brushing that off and criticizing us and then wondering why we’re insecure. And btw, the number of teen pregnancies has gone down in the past 10 years.
