Since when do you get plastic surgery to fix a broken arm? NOT Here's the deal. The generation before her didn't do this kind of stuff. The generation before that barely had it What did kids and parents do then? This is more about helping kids to love themselves as they are and accept it. It's about teaching kids to accept their peers just the way they are. These two will work together. Often times kids bully others because they are insecure themselves. It puts them on a level above that other kid. That's not a way to be. Goodness, there are a whole lot of other things that are far more important than a slightly misshapen nose. Oh, one other thing, the schools need to get more involved in this.

IT's not that she got the surgery, it's why she got it. She let bullies dictate her life. Her nose wasn't even that bad. As an Italian, I KNOW what a big nose is. Hers wasn't. Plus, she was only 13. That's not old enough to make such a permanent decision. Now, I know that breaking a nose can cause issues, such as a deviated septum. It can make it difficult to breath. If she got it fixed for that reason, that would be different. But, she just got it done because people were being mean to her. I know it's hard to ignore bullies, but why change your face forever just to shut them up?

I am sick of people shaming others for getting corrective surgery. These types tend to be self-righteous, purists, or cannot understand that bullying past a certain point destroys character. I also sick of people blaming the victims of bullying. Expecting the victims to "stand up for themselves" (act like trash like the bully) is, in not so many words, victim blaming. A person has to be irredeemable and forever defective to ever even want to rape or bully in the first place. It doesn't matter if you reform. I was also bullied for my big nose in school- being an arab. Honestly I have thought about getting a nose job but what is more important to me now, at age 22, is that I feel beautiful even with this nose! I honestly grew into it. I was in grade 7/8 when I was mostly teased. But by grade 11 I had even got offers to do modelling. I even somewhat like my nose now. This girl did not get a good lesson out of this because there will always be things that people will scrutinize her for and she won't be able to change all those things- very weak move.

1:08 "but doesn't every kid get teased in school?" this line gets to me every time. i was only bullied once thankfully and probably not as long as she had been bullied, but this line makes me loose a little faith in humanity every time I hear it. so much pressure is put on people, females especially, to meet a certain standard of beauty and it hurts to know privately that you don't meet that standard and is probably devastating to have people remind you everywhere that you don't meet that standard. no wonder she decided to get plastic surgery. i try to care as little about my appearance as possible and I would have probably had surgery had i been in her place. teasing is not bullying. avoiding social media is not a viable solution now. sometimes even standing up for yourself or moving away from the bullies doesn't solve the problem. I know this because I've been there. bullying fucking hurts. people being bullied will do anything to stop the bullying.

I've never liked my nose either. It's too small and is upturned like a piggy. And it has a big pock mark where a chicken pox was, and a ridge across - possibly from wiping it from allergies. At least it doesn't seem to give me breathing problems. I'd never get surgery. What if it came out worse? :)

Most people who respond negatively to this were not bullied. Being bullied damages your self-esteem and self-worth. Telling kids to suck it up or ignore it have NO idea the toll that takes. My daughter came home sobbing one day from dance camp at age 5. Another little girl made fun of my daughter's big ears and said my daughter looked like an elf. I told my daughter that she did have big ears and that she did look like an elf. I also told her that her big ears were some of my favorite features on her (her big ears are freaking adorable). I also told her elves are magical and that everyone LOVES elves. "Look at Santa's elves!," I told her. Last year, at 9 years old, she had an assignment where she had to write about something she loves about herself. She wrote about loving her big ears! I found the assignment when I was cleaning out her schoolwork. She will never be self conscious about her ears again. ❤️
