I don't know if the business was even licensed/bonded to cover any decent amount of compensation. The scariest thing I've ever done in my was parasailing in Hawaii. A family mbr had booked it as a surprise and I felt obligated to do it but I was terrified the whole time until my feet touched the boat again and then I cried tears of relief that it was over and I was safe. I can't imagine what that poor woman and those boys were feeling when they were first caught up in the wind and then cut loose, and her husband having to watch it all. Awful.

Yeah it's one thing if there were other children and passengers in the boat but... It sounds like it was just the captain, his crew, and the victim's husband. In that case I feel like the captain and his crew have a moral obligation to risk their own safety and the boat's safety to try to save these people who they are responsible for. It sounds like a horrible situation to be in, but, you can't abandon people like that when you're responsible for their safety on the water.

I live in Florida and got a Groupon deal in Parasailing in Destin. I immediately knew something was wrong, and I had a death grip holding the ropes basically holding my weight. I kept telling my husband I felt like I was falling out. And he thought I was just scared. Right before we came down he looks over at me and says you are not in the seat right! See if you can push yourself up! I did and finally felt secure as we descended. I’m never ever going parasailing again! They did not check to see if I was in properly! I do not trust this activity! I kept thinking if I fall the water will be like a brick wall! I can’t imagine the horror this family went through!

I’m a long time cruiser. I know it may seem like a little extra money, but purchasing your excursions through the cruise ship and therefore getting Royal Caribbean cruise vetted guides (they direct you to the subcontracted company and make sure you get back via the in/out scanners) means you get back safely. You pay extra money to use a company that gets people back alive & insurance in case something goes wrong. (Don’t get me wrong I have a horror story of losing my younger sister in Croatia…nothing is perfect). Too many people look for a “deal” or space on a local’s boat bc the cruise excursions didn’t have anymore seats. Even with vetted guides things can go wrong!

Same Thing happened in Baltimore Maryland at the Harbor at fascination You arts, there was a simple hot air balloon that went up-and-down(stayed in One place) & a couple went on the air balloon and it got blown away during bad weather..(they all xxxx) when They should not have been on it in the 1st place and now that air balloon doesn't exist and it use to be available there for decades..

Things can go awry within moments. I've parasailed several times way back but fortunately with reputable companies that provided safety equipment and weather conditions followed. Parasailing businesses operating during inclement weather should be charged with first degree murder if there is a casualty, even if they obtained the customers' consents on paper before the ride. Customers are NOT aware of the laws that these companies violate when they ask for their consent in writing.

You judge the safety of an activity by what happens when it goes terribly wrong, not when things are going to plan. You want operators to have that mentality. Any laxity is a big warning sign. Safety not being prominently held as the number one priority in a briefing is a sure sign of this.

As an Indian...in Florida...I would not entrust my life to someone there that looked like him. While this man may have been negligent with anyone, he at least would have had an ounce of compassion for their humanity if they weren't Indian instead of throwing them away like garbage out of a car. Looking at the radar images from that time there was a thunderstorm about 15 miles away from them with a gust front about 9 miles out from the storm. The storm started pushing southward about an hour before. The Captain is completely at fault for taking this family out in the first place. From what I read in other articles - the boat wasn’t even equipped with any sort of VHF/ weather radio either. I hope the lawsuit proves successful and send my condolences to the family.

Parasailing : 70 deaths in 30 years. Automobile : 43,000 deaths in 2021 alone . Parasailing is pretty safe compared to riding in a car.

Imagine you're on a boat, with your Wife, Son, & Nephew on a parachute 30 feet above water, it gets windy, and the Boat captain cuts the rope sending them all in whatever direction the wind takes them on the open oceans, not knowing where they would land. And then, they crash land on a bridge, with the children being badly injured, and your Wife dead. This has to be a nightmare of an experience for this Man, and the Child who lost his Mother while she was with him in her last moments will never be able to forget this. That Boat Captain needs to go to jail, and huge lawsuit settlement needs to be made.

I have done parasailing in sunny weather, even at that time it seemed very dangerous. Wind speed getting synchronised with boat speed is something that needs to be excelled. Not even a question doing this in bad weather.

In that case, nobody should ever ride in a bus. Everytime you get in a bus or an Uber, your life is in some stranger's hands. Car accidents are far more dangerous than anything else you do daily. Many put their lives in each other's hands multiple times a day, it's how society works

My condolences to the family and my prayer is that the family can heal! Like others have said we need to be mindful about the activities that we engage in always using our common sense. For me personally, anything that takes you too high off the ground is too risky. I will also say that often times the risk averse person in the group will be mocked when we start telling people that the activity is too dangerous. We get looked on as not being fun and being party poopers.

I went parasailing last year, this never crossed my mind. Crazy and scary. I understand why he cut it, thinking it would land in the water and he could retrieve them with the boat. No life jackets though???
