Will you label your meat as genetically altered so people that don't want it can avoid it? And will you keep the altered animals separated from the unaltered animals?

This isn't genetic altering. It's like giving a medication. The sheep's genetic cell makeup isn't changed.

The sheep aren't genetically modified if I understood the video correctly. Seems more like a "flu shot" or "antibiotics" type of situation where the animal is subject to a temporary effect. If it lingers long enough though, then maybe offspring are affected (maybe build a resistance?) but that would be part of a long-term effects study I'm guessing.

This is awful as usual. As a knitter, I would not consciously purchase this wool for fear of wear and tear from those “weak points” that the shot makes. Secondly- although I am not a red meat eater- I would not want to eat the meat produced by these sheep. I GUARANTEE the commercial purchasers of these sheep will NOT want to disclose the fact that these sheep were treated with this shot even though they will swear it is totally safe. Humans are slowly doing themselves in, in the name of profit. It’s really horrible.
@wjm1319
@wjm1319 5 ай бұрын
Wool that has already grown would not be affected by the shot. That's why they have to turn them back out & wait a few weeks - the wool needs to grow out more so that it has that weak spot, which would only be near the follicle. Then, I would presume, the shot wears off in a few weeks more so that the next year's fleece can grow out strong.

My concern is what the long-term effects would have on the sheeps' health. Why dont the farmers have someone on their farm who shears? The whole process seems to be about speed. Like wheat there is a window for harvesting anything and that requires preparation. "Better living thru chemistry" has resulted in horror stories and that took 40 to 60 years to realize. Ex: PFAS and cement canals through the Everglades.
@elizabethclaiborne6461

You need six to ten shearers to handle commercial flocks. They move from farm to farm. One person as a full time employee would be horrendously expensive and they’d lose fitness out of season. Pro shearers are very fit. Sheep are valuable. Nobody is using toxic anything on them.

fascinating. In Canada wool is going to waste and in US very little wool clothing, not common to get wool yarn economically so wonder what the Aussie wool market goes to. Good question! The long range effects of any 'shot' can never be determined without experimentation....and on who? All for the sake of getting more sheep sheared In record time? Time to take a breather. Sit back for a moment and think; what's the cost of speed over the loss of tradition. Just profit? What profits a man to gain the world$ if he loses his soul or spirit or compassion or the love of his way of life and those in his care.....

I'm very puzzled by your comment-- here in the US wool yarn is very economical, considering how a wool sweater wears very well if properly hand washed, even at a small local yarn store you can buy enough wool for a Medium size sweater for under $150, and knit a sweater you'd wear for 10 or more years. If you order wool yarn online from US or Canadian sources the cost is even less, but I do support small local stores, as they are likely to provide you some help with questions you might have as you're knitting your sweaters.

@@cherylanon5791 different ideas of what is economical I guess. I don't agree. Now that I have time to knit again, despite wearing the acrylic sweaters I did in the 70's, have added several alpaca pieces that are truly affordable when you buy the raw fleece locally from award winning animals. Cheers.

What an interesting concept - which is in an experimental phase lest we forget. If I got this right, the sheep get injected and the wool then breaks off easier and uniformly. Looks like he solved part 1 while they are looking for ways to efficiently harvest that wool. The main advantages appear to be that you'd not need a fully qualified person to "shear correctly" (important in this age of labor shortages) and the sheep would not be subject to cuts. I'm sure they'll look into taste/safety of the meat, properties of such treated wool, and the long term health of the animals/surroundings (does their manure retain enough trace chemicals that work their way up the food chain and people end up brushing their hair out - lol. This experiment sponsored by Rogaine!!!). Overall, an interesting concept. Came across this video randomly and know nothing about the subject.

Subcutaneous is between the skin and the meat You literally only injecting into a pocket It would be 5-20mls at a guess Say a sheep is 46kg that is stuff all No different to putting 2stroke oil into a 20litre drum of fuel The dilution rate would be 3-5 ffold at a guess This is only affecting the skin Not the animals meat

Original wild sheep naturally shed their wool. Early sheep domesticaters selectively bred the sheep to retain the wool so it would be harvestable. With the wool market so poor, why don't they just reverse the breeding process and come up with a meat breed that sheds its wool?

Now the animals are being injected with chemicals which undoubtedly will affect the meat and who knows what it will do to the fibers. Wool is such a pure, lovely and healthy fiber, why mess with it?
