China placed the tariffs and China is the one leaving Australian imports like Lobster to rot with pathetic excuses of "anti-dumping" among others. Australia thankfully has proven to develop their exports to other regions and most industries are nowhere near as deeply impacted as China's own industries that so heavily relied on cheap imports from the close at hand Australia including vital key resources like meat, grains, iron ore, and coal. Huawei was the easiest one to avoid: they should have allowed Huawei to tender, and just not chosen them (this is precisely what Singapore did). It's called diplomacy. Banning Huawei outright in March 2019 is what started the war. The other easy issue to stay right out of is Hong Kong: for 155 years the British stole Hong Kong from China at gun point. It makes absolutely zero sense to interfere there: the British 100% caused that one, not China. If the Australian government had remained rational and acted diplomatically on these two issues then China would still be friends. If you want to claim the moral high ground, you first need to actually have the moral high ground.

This is a bad argument for defending China's actions. Have you ever heard of "proportional response"? For example, If I said bad things about you and then you shot me in the foot for it and threatened to shoot the other foot unless I apologized then that's not really a proportional response to my actions is it? And of course in the media - both corporate and social- they tend to be denounced for these behaviors. You only have to look at the vitriol directed at the US continually.
