Part of the problem is the wealthy, they feel as if the population increases that THEIR quality of life will decrease. However I don't feel as if the world must become completely equal as far as economics and wealth are concerned, but there are many things that can change that would still allow enough food and water for whatever the population may be. There is still so much uncharted land in this world and plenty of resources, raw materials and sources of energy that growth should not be a problem. I've envisioned massive buildings that would be considered an entire city, even using artificial UV light for the growth of crops using multiple levels, so land would not be an issue needing farmland. These things can be achieved, money is not an issue since there is really nothing to back it anymore. The real issue is getting enough people back in the workforce to make these things happen. With the right ingenuity and plans, I don't see any reason why this world couldn't sustain twice the population it has now. Bigger minds can produce bigger plans.

I had a discussion recently with a farmer. He complained about the earthworms; they are less and less . Previously the farmer increased the number of the earthworms by letting some land non-cultivated for a 2-3 years and putting some organic waste. But recently it doesn't help much, something is off. The farmer said that to cultivate on a soil without worms you need a lot of fertilizer and in few years the soil is spoiled. it is declining :) In many sectors it is. Look at the new house/flat sizes, cant come even close to the houses in 1950 or 1970... Look at the car engine sizes, cant be compared with the ones they were driving in 1970.. Food quality, even lighting bulbs were changed to the economical ones and LEDs are even used more and more. That is not for economy that is reduction in life quality or rather trying to maintain it, reducing your needs little by little without you even feeling much. Different countries also have different plans for future for example each new built house in Europe has to be A or A+ energy class and no less. This means greatly reducing house energy usage electricity and heating... I live in old house built in 1990 which in comparison is probably at class F or so the energy needed to heat this house in winter cant even be compared with it I would probably be able to heat 4 or 3 A+ houses through the winter time. So yeah things are being done but in such speed that majority would not realize and it would not put the whole countries in to a state of panic and anarchy...

Computers have helped improve efficiency in managing our resources delaying the coming disasters. Life has gotten better for the rich and harder for the poor to get out of poverty. Middle class children will not have the opportunities for advancement my generation did from nearly free education, cheap healthcare and affordable housing. Those old computer models couldn't predict the power of billionaires and the possibility of democracy dying. I've seen first hand the degradation of our environment as population growth pushes us towards collapse. I don't need computer models or scientists' predictions to see the danger the next generations will face. We've been taught by our consumerism to only care about our selfish needs and the rest of the world be damned.
