Love this story how cockatoos and people learn from each other. It reminded me of the great tits who learned how to pierce the foil caps of milk bottles in the uk from each other. And people asking for help on google how to prevent this and other birds to do that.😂

I put it out after dark, no more problems. Others in the street are catching on.

Yeah, just depends upon what time the garbage collection comes to pick it up. It’s great if it’s picked up early in the morning before the birds are up

I had a cocky that learnt to open his spring lock cage, the only way to stop him was use a padlock, I made sure I kept the key though!🤪

"Welcome to The Lockpicking Cockatoo, today we have this masterlock my owner tried to put on my cage, but they left their hairpin within reach. Without further ado, let's get started. Click out of one...two is binding..."

Great conclusion ! I wanted to point out ravens can consistently do so too ! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXSWYoaCnsZgjac (Similarly here, people actively try to prevent the opening of bins by ravens hence the stone in that one) A few corvids have cognitive abilities comparable to those of great apes in some regards.
