I've been cannulating for years and this video is revolutionary. Nobody else has addressed the area of 'imagining' before, and it has been what is missing for those of us who need to be able to imagine before we can do a job well. I struggle with being able to imagine or visualize where veins are in individuals who have very deep or hidden veins, are very obese, oedematous or have very dark skin. I can feel veins of course, but it is the tricky ones that I have a hard time. Could you do more on imagining veins, their size, location and how to find them when they're hiding (I already know where the veins are supposed to be obviously). I constantly want to improve to make things as easy as possible for my patients. Thanks so much. Also could you do a video on how is best to use red light to find veins if you just have a small torch and not a vein-finder, in all skin colours. Thanks.

Thank you very much! This is probably the best video about periferal vein cannilation that I've watched. And don't worry about your drawings, these are really intelligible.

Very helpful videos. Watched your first video on IV cannulation and after that I passed 3 neat ones but today I tried it on a paediatric patient that didn't go too well and that's why i am back here. Quick one, how do you stretch the skin on the forearm so you don't lose the visible vein. Also can you help with a video on the not too visible veins and also veins such as the external jug or femoral vein. T for thanks.

Hello! Have you tried using a clear straw as the vein when demonstrating insertion? Thank you for all the videos especially for IV insertion. Really helped me a lot in my practice. Very clear and calm manner in teaching. I’m sure for a lot of other clinicians benefited also.

Excellent!! I am a Neonatal RN and can't wait to try all these tips!! Do you ever start IV's in Premature babies? Tips?? Thank you!!
@ABCsofAnaesthesia3 жыл бұрын
Hey! I have and i literally use all the tips from my iv cannulation playlist. Also the normal saline in the chamber trick. Theres a vid for that too. The one extra thing i do when i cant even see a vein, is using a torch light under the palm.. shining up to the dorsum. This allows me to see the shadow of veins. Ill then use all the tricks i have to get the vein now that i can see one.

I really appreciate you sharing your expertise. I am a nurse and struggling in cannulation. But then came across your channel and voila, never been confident starting a line. There are still misses but not as much as before. Thank you! Also how do you prevent having blood in the punctured site upon inserting the needle during venepuncture? Oftentimes when I draw blood, upon inserting the needle blood will show in the punctured site. I don’t know what am I doing wrong. Others noticed it too. Hahaha

Hey I have one question! If you have a DVT of an upper limb like in Subclavian vein, can we insert iv canula in the peripheral veins of that limb?
@ABCsofAnaesthesia3 жыл бұрын
Great question and tricky scenario! I would avoid that limb for cannulation if at all possible. Upper limb DVTs are an unusual site and usually will be managed by a haematologist. I would ask them for further advice about the cause, treatment and if caution needs to be taken when inserting iv cannulas in other parts of the body as well.

One huge flaw in all your videos, which you strangely emphasise a lot, is the fact one should go “slow”. Slow is when you get rolled veins. Go fast.
