They should just remould the statue into a Star Wars character. That’s what they did in Ukraine. They created a statue of Darth Vader

Oh no a old guy who held views consistent with his time...shock,horror, How dare he!. But srs if you have a grandparent alive today then chances are the pretty dam racist but we understand that was how most people behaved back then & i know from first hand experience that you could spend 20+ years of your life trying to change there mind but its just not going to happen. more education is needed sure thing and i don't any sane person thinks otherwise but don't go tearing down history that's as good as pretending it never happened and worse then "not talking about the bad bits".

Let's look at an extreme case: Germany does not have statues about WWII and the holocaust, they have memorials and museums. It is not unreasonable for us to follow a similar model; museums, books and films are the perfect place to learn both the good and bad about a person. Statues aren't about learning; they're about idolizing. And why should we idolize people out of step with our values?
