5:10 the man has a point here, Westerners tend to think that just because the Ottoman's had quite a bit of European land that they were Western - this is complete and utter BS!!, they were VERY Middle Eastern in their Lifestyles, Behaviours, Cultures, Practices etc etc etc, just look at the way they spoke (language), they conducted themselves, and how they lived their lives - they were a Muslim Outfit to the CORE (and EVERYTHING that represented). Never forget this!

Thank you for giving insight to a non-muslim woman who has seen the horror of American foreign policy in her country, Colombia. And, what US foreign policy and UK doble morality and Canadian hypocrisy has created in South America: Societies that believe those countries are their saviors when they actually are the ones pulling the knife to our throats.

As a Tatar, who has tried to learn about own history, which is quite tricky, because we can't have any view that contradicts Russian historiography, so we don't have much of own historical documents too, I've used to be very skeptical of the Ottoman sultans, because we are sister Muslim and language nations and they have let this all happen to us without ever trying to send us help. Now I'm thinking that it was never that simple. It's remarkable that piousness didn't win against brute force, but it was protecting Abdulhamid till the end

It seems remarkable to me that in the same era, Japan adopted western technology, adopted a western inspired government and army, yet managed to hold on strongly to Japanese culture, and although with some difficulty, more or less repelled foreign interference in Japan once modernization had gotten under way. Meanwhile the Ottomans fumbled repeatedly. It is not fair to make a direct comparison of course... but it is a wonder anyway.
@baphometsa19673 жыл бұрын
Japan suffered destruction and experienced death. Japanese surrendered to the US power and foreign policy after WWII. Japanese are just another geopolitic slain to the USA, a country that imposes their power openly to any wanted target. Fear to the US savagism is not something to admire. Japanese on foot do remember and do not forget nor forgive. That is the only reason why their culture has survived.

I wouldn’t characterise Modernity (capital M) simply as a matter of technology, but rather also ideas. In this respect Modernity is quite disarming; it allows, to some extent, the maintenance of superficial culture as long as the ideology of Modernity is adopted. Modernity is entirely ideological, and that ideology permeates every human expression, including education, governance, economics, psychology and culture too. It’s worthwhile exploring the body of work written by Professor Wael Hallaq.

Saying him the last true sultan is unfair. Masons didn't let the rest of sultans so they hadn't ruled any opportunities the rest of them had. Abdulhamid 2 is raised by Allah by his childhood he collect money and he has very low chance to get the throne so he became a rich and not killed at that time. But the rest of them are not that lucky enough.
