Is malnutrition a bad thing or a way for the body to shut down? We don't need our loved ones to live longer if they are not healthy. If they stop eating we might need to listen to what they are telling us.

My 94 year old mother has stage 5 Alzheimers and lives on her own. Mother has carers twice a day. Mother has no idea how to use her oven hob or microwave, so her carer prepares mother's evening meal. Mother's appetite has decreased over the years and her food intake is paltry and limited. She relies on biscuits to sustain her and sleeps more often than usual. Her weight is decreasing and mother is frail looking and has lots of skin lesions ,bruising and marking which she cannot remember inflicting upon herself. Why is mother not in a Care Home when her ability to sustain herself is in serious question? Mother is in full denial of all her issues e.g.deafness, incontinence, macro degeneration of her eyes, rheumatism in her knee and failing mental ability. She refuses to use any assistive devices and her stubbornness is truly breathtaking. We, her family have to tolerate her attitude and hope that her future assessment with Adult Social Care Services will determine her future residence.
