"We all have in our mind what a perfect Christian is in our minds, and when we compare ourselves to this made-up person, we destroy ourselves." - Abi Stumvoll

Lesson Summary:
I spent my whole life performing and feeling the pressure of being a "miracle child."
I felt like I needed to save everyone.
We all have in our minds what a perfect Christian is in our minds. - and when we compare ourselves to this made-up person we destroy ourselves.
The image I have of who I'm supposed to be is a vain imagination exalting itself above who He is.
GOD SAID, 'ABI YOU WERE BORN TO BE LOVED AND TO LOVE.'
I can't fail at being loved by God and loving people.
If I can connect to his love in my failure, I can never fail.
What you sow in self-hatred you will reap in self-hatred.
John 15 - He is the vine, and we are the branches, we have to remain in him to bare fruit.
1 John 4:16 and so we KNOW and RELY on the LOVE God has, God's love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides continually in him
There's a lie in Christianity that if you beat yourself up enough that is penance to God.
You have to step out of the very nature of God to hate yourself.
If you let his love in it will change you more.
Genesis And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden, 3 except the fruit from the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God said, 'You shall not eat from it nor touch it, otherwise you will die.'" 4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You certainly will not die! 5 For God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened [that is, you will have greater awareness], and you will be like God, knowing [the difference between] good and evil." 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was delightful to look at, and a tree to be desired in order to make one wise and insightful, she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband [c]with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of the two of them were opened [that is, their awareness increased], and they knew that they were naked; and they fastened fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool [afternoon breeze] of the day, so the man and his wife hid and kept themselves hidden from the [d]presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to Adam, and said to him, "Where are you?" 10 He said, "I heard the sound of You [walking] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself." 11 God said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten [fruit] from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?"
They eat from the tree and realize they are naked. They became able to judge themselves. It was God's intent that we would never know any separation from love.
As soon as they realized they were naked, they figured out their own way to hide instead of bringing it to God. (This is where performance comes in.)
The snake tells them they will be like God if they eat the fruit. He says you aren't good enough, even though they were already like God.
The accusers' whole plan is to tell us we aren't enough, and we need to fix it apart from God.
Shame makes you believe that there is something wrong with you instead of that, you just did something wrong.
Shame wants to identify us
God set this up from the beginning to show us his plan for redemption.
We think as soon as we sin God turns his back on us. But God actually pursues us in our sin. And he has been doing this since the beginning. The first consequence he gives is his plan for redemption for all humanity.
If God responded to Eve with a plan for redemption, then what could you do that would be beyond God's love and grace?
We think that God will remove his love for us if we don't have a plan to make our wrongs right.
It's always been about getting love to you.
Shame wants to keep us hidden, but God wants to pull us out.
If you confess the little things, you won't get to the big stuff. When you own your story, it free's you from shame. Posture your heart that you'll never say "no" to love.

Tysm. This blessed me on a whole new level of restoration. I related to this times 10! I’m a PK since I was 9, was molested since I was 5 by a relative... nobody knew & this person also did the same to my siblings. I was the shy & quiet & timid of the Brady bunch (literally) - and yet I couldn’t stand it anymore & spoke up in middle school. It was swept under the rug & my dad beat him up & sent him away. However, I always felt like I had to fight hard to be good enough to appease them for the hurt & shame I thought I caused for opening my mouth. I’m Samoan & my culture doesn’t help especially for a High chief & Sr. Pastor. Shame & Guilt led me to do things I regret even being married. God is so good for delivering my family from generational curses & shame & Jesus for bringing the ministry of reconciliation. I’m 35 now and leading worship in church & it is the place of no shame & healing & redemption that I lead from. It is from the grace of God which enables & empowers me daily!!! Tysm for sharing this! Deep truths

This message is full of God's Truth and Love!! We must change our perception of who God is. He is not the tyrant that He has been made to be. Before I received the revelation of Jesus Christ, His Sacrifice and Love I walked before the Lord on eggshells, working, serving, not missing church, Bible Study, etc.to make Him happy and pleased!

I paused the video to go to Biblehub.com to read Genesis 3 (Adam and Eve sinning and banned) and Genesis 4 (Cain sinning and being banned). I felt God wanting me to ask if God yelled at His kids. So I looked for exclamation marks and saw God NEVER yelled at anyone except satan. God HIMSELF experienced pain in having children, but still multiplied and Eve shared in what God Himself was going through. He made skin garments (of an animal that had to be sacrificed unto death) and would cover their shame as a sign of what Jesus would do in clothing us in His righteousness, in His image through His sacrificial death. Adam was God’s firstborn son who, through sin, became a tiller of the soil as well as Adam’s firstborn son Cain. No exclamations were made from God when Cain killed his brother. The law wasn’t even made yet. It was all about living in love (now) in the midst of darkness. Cain was afraid of punishment and God marked Cain so he wouldn’t be killed by man or beast. Yet Cain left God’s Presence. The ground was curse because satan was cursed and Adam unknowingly gave his authority over the land to satan through the open door of sin.

God didn’t want them living forever in a cursed world away from a Paradise filled with Love and His Presence there to love on His children that He created so He kicked them out for their safety. Their ways were no longer pure enough to handle the fruit given to them. God wants us to hold onto good Spiritual fruit and discard the bad fruit from our presence. It was symbolic of what was to come. God still went after His children to be with them and be their Provider and Protector. Their sinful nature never changed His mind about wanting to be their Dad and desiring a Father-Son/Daughter relationship with them. He was the same loving Father yesterday as He was the next day.

I' ve never wanted to shame myself so God would love me. I've always known He loves me ,but thought He was ashamed of me for not learning to love myself ! Still, He never turns away, He has shown me many miracles in my and my family's life and has blessed us abundantly! He has answered every prayer I've prayed for others His will, His way. And I count every miracle, big and small ! I stand in worship in awe of the love God has for us,that he would sacrifice His only son, Jesus Christ, who would show the entire world an undying love... the greatest love of all ! I'm going to watch this powerful teaching and prayer and declaration and affirmation of freedom until the little girl on Santa's lap God showed me in prayer, quits trying to leave his lap , because that's truly where she longs to be. God bless you all ! This beautiful message has touched and deeply blessed my heart.

As a worship leader, I struggle with the same sin and shame. I hide myself from God because of the guilt. And the fact that I'm on the worship team made it more harder to me. People see me on the stage and lead worship every Sunday but my mindset is this, I should be a good example to everyone especially on my walk with the Lord. My ministry became a burden to me and I feel like everything doesn't make sense at all. Then our Pastor once said that "We work for the kingdom but forget about the King" I cried in my room while I listen to her as I felt God's presence embrace me. I know it's not an accident that I heard this teaching, it made me realize so many important things. Lord thank You so much.

Bri Mil I’m sorry but according to 1 John 4:8, God IS love. Love is not just one attribute of God. That is his whole entire make up. Love encompasses everything else that He is. Love is His ONLY nature. God IS love. Also, as children of God we are not supposed to tear down those who are working for the Kingdom. So many people are dealing with shame and this message is well needed, especially in this generation. Division inside of the body of Christ must end. We are called to be united in Love.
