I've known Abi off and on since she was an 8 month old cub, similar to Gabriel but didn't spend the time with her like Gabe's. I acquired her as a rescue cheetah and ambassador for her kind at my future cheetah breeding and rewilding project. I didn't expect her to want or even be able to bear cubs. The vet said she could, even though she has a large part of her hip bone removed due to an inury during birth. What a pleasant surprise when I heard she went into heat at Running Wild Conservation where they care for her and Gabriel... and now Kimi!
She did so well at the new project that she became a mother of 2 wonderful healthy cubs, Kimi and Kayzer. Now that the cubs are almost adult, 2 years old, Abi wanted to leave them... She no longer enjoyed their company and it is very natural. She went into heat and started the life cycle all over again. She selected her old mate, Skyler again and now Abi is pregnant again and possibly with more than 2 cubs! Look at the end picture of her TUMMY!
I hope to have more pics and video of the cubs, but unfortunately I cannot be there for the event. I have a career outside of my cheetahs that prevents me from spending my time I want with them. I hope to end my career (which pays for the cheetahs) in a couple of years... I pray.
This video scoots through the 8 years I've known Abi and the cubs growing up FAST! They are doing well and Kimi had her own kill recently of an impala female and shared it with her mom and brother. I plan on Kimi being a breeder for my project and future cubs will all be considered for release... into the wild.
Thanks for watching!

Cheetahs have very little smell at all, like a clean carpet. Their breath even has a deodorizing agent in them to hide stinks. To be near scentless helps hide cats/predators from their prey to get closer. Prey animals also deploy such strategies to avoid predators.

Poor Gabe's. He actually had a female cheetah he REALLY liked at this project named Hunter... She passed away from liver failure over year ago. We would place her next to Gabriel so he could gawk at her, call, and make him active. She didn't like him either, but he was so turned on by her. Gabriel actually mated with another cheetah at another project I brought him from. No cubs and I could not convince the owner to sell her to me so Gabe and her could keep trying. Her name is Love. Maybe I'll try again to purchase her. Time is running out though. Not sure how old she is.

Amazingly, in this area of South Africa (north JoBerg 1.5 hours) in the Mts, there are mosquitoes, but they DON'T bother me., Ones in Bloemfontein (west SA) DO! I read certain smells of your skin, not just the CO2 of your breath, affect how a species of mosquitoes decide to attack! Other than that, I love sleeping outside with the cheetahs. The sounds and sky and then the wonderful purring warm spooning company. I don't get to do it often. I also don't get much sleep when doing it. They love it though.

Dang... In cheetah husbandry, it was shown the females like the FURTHEREST distant smelling relative (DNA) from themselves. Also, it helps to keep the breeding males and females away from each other, sight, sound, smell except when they are ready and in heat. Casual visits are stimulatingly and can help but not everyday. Taking a female to a new territory or project also stimulates estrus.
@josedorsaith5261
@josedorsaith5261 25 күн бұрын
@@CheetahWhisperer That's interesting, because it's the same with human women. We even have the glomerulus organ that lets women subconsciously smell if a male has a different immune makeup to her own. Makes sense, considering that cheetahs and humans sexually reproduce and carry their young to term. The female selects which genes get passed on both consciously and subconsciously. Maybe the snow leopard could smell some recessive genes that would have caused problems for any offspring
