I had a very bad reaction to this drug. I was told (by a psychiatrist) I had a mood disorder when I was a very young teenager. Although I was just a very troubled and heartbroken child who had been through a lot and needed guidance. This medication pretty much temporarily paralyzed me. I will never forget it. My tongue started swelling up so bad I couldn't talk, my neck started pulling sideways on its own until it reached my shoulder and got stuck there and I could no longer move it. Then my arms and legs started drawling up and I lost my ability to walk. Absolutely terrifying for a child. I was given several different shots immediately. One was a steroid shot, cortizone shot, and I don't remember what else. I mostly remember how terrified I was and the nurses frantically running around then several holding me up and helping me around until I eventually gained back some control of my limbs. This experience absolutely traumatized me for a long time as a child and I'm so thankful I was already in a hospital when it happened and I came back out of that reaction okay. Please know, this can be a very dangerous drug.

Hated how abilify made me feel. The insomnia was horrible but I had no energy and was always tired. I also just felt drugged up.. and I really didn't need it (was already on two antidepressants and am diagnosed dysthymia and anxiety) But I stopped taking it cold turkey and things became way worse. I was suicidal for months after stopping it. Also got very sick. So if you are taking it and don't like how it makes you feel, tell your doctor so they can get you off it properly.

@@lexim.9814 Phosphatidyl-choline also helps. If you can go off antipsychotics, it would be best. If you are forced to take them - try to be on the lowest dose. Usually, there are deep root spiritual reasons of schizophrenia and psychosis - they are not signs of brain disease. Antipsychotics are just used by psychiatrists to brush things off the carpet easily, without the huge efforts to heal the emotional trauma of the patient, the family issues, and the social problems.

If I took it during the day I was sooooooo tired and yawning all the time. My dr suggested taking it at night and I found it much better. Good luck people, too bad we all have to be chained to a drug in order to stay sane. I take it for mania and I’ve put on 45 lbs but at least I can be a parent now.

I was a two year user of abilify, within one month of stopping abilify I developed a major allergy to metal. makes it difficult when I am allergic to most belt buckles snaps and watches. Don’t feel hopeless, I suffer from PTSD, major depression, bipolar with Psychotic episodes, social anxiety, panic attacks and spectrum autism, attempted suicide twice, and I do self harm....if given the proper medication will help haven’t cut myself for a month unfortunately many types of mental issues are incurable. I have to take the hard meds like klonopin, but they help, klonopin is actually a Xanax that last longer...but their very addictive and coming off them is harsh.

I got this described to me for my tourette syndrome and to be honest if I knew how this med fucked up my mental condition before taking it I would've just tried to live with the tics I got this described at about the age of 15 I guess and immediately stopped taking it the day I turned 18 and got the say in wether or not I wanna take it I'm almost 21 now and this medication had a very big part in me not being able to move on in life I have reaccuring depression(in the time of taking it I was depressed and had suicidal tendencies and failed attempts), my overal mental state is very weak and on a social scale I completely missed out on certain important developments, however it did actually help against the tics but thr issues I am dealing with right now I do not consider it worth it...

You have to think about a drug injected directly into your body. This is at a high dose to be "time-released", too. 300-400 mg. I was on it for over 2 years. It's disgusting and comes with the worst side effects. I was on Aristada first, then Abilify Maintena 400 mg, and now I switched dr's and take 7.5 (half of 15 mg a day) and have side effects STILL. Just do your homework and ask the doctor whatever you can about it!
