I LOVED this story as a child. I read the version illustrated by Janet & Anne Grahame Johnstone, and it is beautiful. It was my first introduction to slightly creepier fairy tales and stuck to me through adulthood. Plus a fantasy story about cats is always a win. I'm so happy she read this! :)

This story actually reminded me of a movie from my childhood: Studio Ghibli's The Cat Returns. It's a cute movie and is almost all of the characters are cats.

I have a different interpretation of "End the curse, hurt me." I almost saw it as "I cannot be my true self around you until you kill your preconceptions of me, no matter how hard it will be for you"

Surprisingly my mother had a big book that was filled with Charles Perrault fairy tales. In this book was this very story and this one I read and loved. I never read the others because none of them peeked my interest other than this one. I keep on saying that if Disney wishes to make another Disney Princess movie than they should look no further than this one right here. Of course, with an origin for this princess-turned-cat and even the way the prince had to turn her back, they would need to change that whole part to keep it child friendly. If they do this then I would love to watch this movie.

I loved how much _you loved_ this story :) To be fair, at multiple times, I feel like _everyone's_ gotta be onboard how cool this cat is. The image of a bunch of cats dressed like robin hood riding monkeys with a prince on a magical toy horse is incredible and would sell anybody on this whole thing, big time. Who knows why the Prince didn't just be like, "Pfft, screw this quest. I'ma hang out with these cool cats and their super cool white cat princess that *I certainly hope I don't have to decapitate someday"* (^-^) God, why was that, like, a go-to story telling device back then?

Your telling of this story is the only other time I saw it, outside of a book of fairy tales I've owned since I was a baby. Only in the story from my book, the hands were disembodied instead of invisible. Even creepier, IMHO.
