I’ve ordered! This suits my workflow very well. Which to be honest is very simple and sample based. 1. Drums, 2. sample chops, 3. Bass, 4. Whatever else! The aim of this machine is to make for quick, easy workflow, which is exactly what I want!

Fair assessment, although it seems It doesn't chop samples directly, there seems to be a workaround but currently that doesn't seem to be easy to do.

@@keepitgrimy I don't think there's anything like being able to automatically chop a loop into 16 parts or by transition or anything. My chopping workflow is more manual, such as finding a chop I like then copy / paste and repeat. Although I'm concerned as I couldn't see anything in the manual about being able to copy and paste drum samples from one pad to another, surely it can do this!

I think the four track limit is a bit overstated. There are four tracks, true. But they can be drum tracks if you want. And drum tracks each have sixteen pads that *you can sequence chromatically.* This is new, it doesn’t exist in Live or on Push. That means that a single drum track is really 16 sub-tracks. It reminds me a lot of Maschine in that way. A drum “track” here is more like a “group” in Maschine, where you have sixteen sounds that can be sequenced independent, including chromatic notes. This is potentially a huge workflow improvement, and I really, really hope they add the ability to play drum rack pads chromatically in Live/Push, as well. If you set up the Move with four drum tracks, then you effectively have 64 tracks that can all be sequenced independently. So four “tracks” officially, but you can have a lot more than four sounds. You can even have a lot more than a drum kit and three more sounds (like on Seq-Trak, for example). I think we’ll find the four track limit to be much less of a limit in practice once we get our hands on these things. 😁 (This is all assuming I’m understanding this correctly from all the videos I’ve watched! Possible I’m wrong, but I don’t think so :)

Given that you can load different kits on the same track, and fire clips off in different combos, the four-track limit doesn't seem so bad. Considering the device is polyphonic, that helps too--devices like the Digitakt and Tracker are mono, and you'd have to blow four tracks to get full chords anyway. For the price, it seems good, and if you don't have Llive, they include Into for free, which is $100, and surprsingly capable. So...decent enough. I'll give it a shot. Hopefully they update for more synth/sample editing. The interface is elegant, too.

There are 4 tracks, but you can set them up as drum racks, which would effectively give you 64 tracks if you produce with samples and one-shots. Additionally, you can resample or print synth tracks to a pad in a drum rack track. It’s not as limited as some might think; it’s actually pretty good compared to other machines in the same price range, such as the MC-101, KO-2, SP-404, P6, OP-Z, Digitakt, and even the OP-1, in my opinion. The fact that you have USB-C for charging with a power bank, a battery life of 4 hours, and built-in speakers is impressive, especially in version 1.0. I can’t even imagine the possibilities and hacks that music creators will come up with. Of course, keyboard warriors will always point out the specs, but producers will love this.

I’ve got one, it’s awesome! It’s definitely not a Push 3 but it’s not supposed to be. It’s a sketchpad for Ableton, great build quality, midi capture, very intuitive and a better way to look at it is 64 tracks (4 x drum racks) with 4 output busses. The speakers are adequate, like laptop speakers. You won’t be blown away but they will do. Lots to like about it if you can think outside the box and aren’t hung up on needing a huge display! Look forward to your take on it. 👍

I really like this device. It is quite expensive when compared to the sonicware or Novation grooveboxes. But it is truly mobile, and it has separate buttons for the steps in the sequence vs the pitch so it will have a pretty fast workflow for step sequencing melodies. I definitely think this is going to be an excellent groovebox.

Personally I like the 4 track limit. I think it will push me to be more creative and deliberate with composition. Also you can get really creative with the samples on pads in the drum track. You could even do a project with 4 drum tracks with lots of snippets of audio, bits and pieces, pads, one shot melodic elements on the pads. You can end up hypothetically with 4 times 16 sample slots with all its own sequences

This. A mic input would have been nice but the SP and MPCs have that already for deeper machines. Bouncing stuff to samples isn’t a bad idea at all, and not a new one either. If I need to chop stuff up I figure I’d do that on a proper DAW and import them as samples anyway. Auto chop might be a nice feature for them to add later in firmware along with more fancy sequencer stuff but keeping it simple and forcing focus on the core musical ideas is a great direction vs kitchen sink devices that the market already has plenty of. I only wish the P-6 was $20 more and had this same screen. Otherwise very fun device too.

I had my doubts at first. I really wish it had sampling through USB-C in, or BT, better sample chopping, among other things. But I got to thinking about it, seeing the workarounds to the 4 tracks. Chromatic scales on drum tracks makes this have an ASR workflow in a snap, copying samples and changing start points will make chopping fast and more organic, effects are already on the knobs, updates and additions like custom racks are coming in the future. I've been using Ableton a long time, nothing like it, and I picked it up years ago because there really was nothing "LIVE" like it. Ableton was made to work on the fly in performance and that really helps to get ideas in fast. I've added a 404 and MPC, but the workflow can be tedious and the menu diving annoying. I went ahead and put in my order. I'm not going to sit on the sidelines and down-talk this one. I have a strong feeling that people are going to make this thing go stupid in ways we have not thought of yet.

I promised myself I’d buy Move if a.) the price was right (under $500 USD) and b.) it suited my needs for a portable device (it does.) Ordered from Sweetwater and I’ll have it in-hand Thursday. I had my finger on the “buy” button on the Ableton site, but then I watched some reviews - like this one! - to see what it does, in depth, and realized I have a groovebox problem. Love ‘em, but rarely use ‘em. I love the idea of the Move, features look great, and the four track limit isn’t a problem for me. BUT. I’d mostly want it to play live shows, and I almost never do that any more. I will dive back into my SP404 MKII for that. I was really missing a hardware sampler until I got the 404. I don’t love the pads on the 404, but I love pretty much everything else about it.

Move seems pretty robust for the price, good storage, decent sample length, mic, little battery. usb host! , sampler, pretty good step length, but then the fact it has clips, yeah you could write songs on this. The M8 outclasses it in about everyway but not everyone likes trackers. As someone that uses a lot of 3 or 4 track trackers, 4 tracks is fine, but on a tracker you can change instrument per step, here you can't but.. you can put multiple drum tracks with 16 pitch, can't recall the drum polyphony per track, but that opens it up a lot. I used to be a gigging guitarist and I have bought so many 1/4 inch cables in my life, just non stop breaking them. Have been gigging with 1/8 cable synth gear and never had to replace a cable. I just don't think it's an issue I'd even say I'm happy to see 1/8 in cables on a portable device, way less stuff to carry. I don't have ableton live or any interest in it, but I think the move seems pretty good. I think Ableton did a good job with this though.

What would be good with this, is if it was like something like the K.O 2 but you could easily export the project files straight to Ableton to make any on the fly creativity later easily built upon to a full tract in a DAW… that will obviously the the edge it has over things like the SP-404 or K.O 2 etc. I’m sure there will be more to the 4 tracks also and if there’s a really good resampling function with it that there’s a way it keeps all stages of the original content to export it to a DAW so you can do kinda what you do with the SP-404 but also have the original files to further be more creative in the DAW. Maybe as well instruments wise, you can have multiple instruments on each channel and be able to have multiple playing with separate midi input playing on each track and again that all become separated in the DAW… this is probably ambitious… but maybe not… because maybe it acts like the original OP-1 but with easy part separation in the DAW when you export to make it a full track. If it can do this the unbalanced 3.5 ports then do not matter as they are perfect for on the go production and once in the DAW your studio setup takes over. It’ll them just be about how when it works with other units for it to become a great piece in a mini gear setup or any setup.

I think the people saying “OMG for $449 I can buy a ENTIRE STUDIO!” are kind of missing the point and are probably comparing apples to oranges: it’s a good thing that this is standalone, as nothing beats physical knobs and hardware for capturing inspiration quickly. Also, regarding the track count, it’s worth mentioning that the new Ableton drum sampler has pitched sample playback, so you easily have your bass sound sitting within the drum rack along with drum hits and melodic one shots. What’s more, you can resample the output into a drum pad if you run out of tracks for your melodic instruments. (In case you can’t tell, I’ve ordered mine)

For the missing track, a fw update adding at least one transversal audio track per set to which we could freeze and bounce one of the tracks would make it good enough for the size/price. The lack of as least TRS MIDI is a big miss definitely. Can be solved with a USB to MIDI adapter but then welcome to dongle-world… I would consider it only if they add a few features like sidechain and some vocal FX, for now I let the hype pass, just like I deep with the Roland P6 😅 At least this will push (no pub intended) Akai to get into the « mini world » sooner rather than later, who knows ? 🤷🏻‍♂️

screen choice is really disappointing to me. imagine this device, even with the screen from old Push 1. it'd give you info on all 8 knobs parameters at once. The push 1 was cheaper than the move at launch too, i'm sure they could've afforded to put that screen in the Move. The screen kills the device for me. One parameter at a time for 8 knobs is always clunky. If they figure out way to make your iphone/android as an external screen, maybe it could save this device.

I mean, you could get a Linnstrument 128 which is about the same price as the Push but it's smaller. The idea of controllers which are proprietary to a specific DAW feels weird to me. Also, very nice of Ableton to copy the Novation Circuit 9 years later and claim it's a new device.

4 tracks but you have resampling, long samples per pad and pitched sampler... i e., 16 monophonic subtracks per drum track

TLDR: Don't waste your money! There are so many great better that the Move. If you have extra money to burn and you just like to collect gear, then OK. But if you want to get something really usable and care about getting the most bang for a buck, this is not it and there are so many better standalone options, for real 10x the power we have: various MPC(s), Machine Mk3, MC707, Digitakt, Octatrakt, Polyend(s), Zynthian, Deluege, etc. and if going on a budget and still 2x-5x the power the M8 Dirtywave, MC101, Model Cycles & Samples, Circuit Track & Rhythm, MV1, SP404MkII, any of the small aira compact series... all same price, or cheaper and tons of more power than the Move, which really should be priced 150-200 max.

i have novation circuit rhythm much better device and form factor than this but it doesn’t have good sampling capabilities even it is just a sampler, i would go for this for sketching just because it is integrated with Ableton live. That’s the only catch for me. 4 tracks is a bummer.

Ordered a Move to play with my kids with. I figure it’ll be a fun casual low-stress low-stakes self-contained machine. Push 3 is underpowered because they went with Intel instead of ARM. X86 is not what you want for power efficiency and speed. Phones now are as fast as desktops in things that matter, like JavaScript execution performance. Hopefully it doesn’t have that terrible “soft touch” fake rubber plastic finish that gets sticky after 3 years. I refuse to buy products with that coating as only really strong chemicals like toluene can remove it, and those can damage other plastic parts easily or just leave a nasty smell.

Good luck in the storm. Ableton missed the mark on the Push due to price point and the Akai Force looking more attractive. On this one, they missed the mark on features and screen due to the MPC options available. They need to release something that is competitively priced. This doesn't seem worth what they are asking when the Roland MV-1 will give similar functionality, more value per dollar, and just a slightly higher price point. Ableton DAW functionality is not so exclusive anymore.

It seems to me that it will be a cool idea starter... leave it by your bed.. sample yourself snoring. Or ask your wife or husband or your sister.. anyway.. The wifi and resampling sold me, though I know it's not the perrrrfect whatever.. it's a quick sketcher and a good way for some like me to get into Ableton.. there's the note.. but as always humans want gear..lol..

I’m saying move on. Four tracks is super limiting. I’m sure some wizards out there can make do, but for me it’s a dealbreaker. The ins and outs also killed it for me.

The pads on the drum kits have 16 levels, so you could sequence the drums, bass and melody inside the same track. 8 tracks would`ve been perfect though

I am disappointed with Ableton hardware. I was hoping to be able to completely use just Ableton for my needs as it’s my primary daw. However everything they release just lacks what I need for me to be able to commit to the hardware.

Meh... might be a good addition to a small unit setup but not excited about it at all. The options lighting up at the bottom looked cool. 4 Tracks is a bit silly for a modern device unless there more to it than that or if it has a really cool resampling operation to it where you can in fact have a lot more on one track. Maybe this is where creativity fits in with it?

Not if you’re using Ableton. Circuit tracks outputs all of your tracks in 2 channels. Trust me, THAT is a pain in the ass. Same with the Yamaha seqtrack. At least with this, you can export your project seamlessly into Ableton.
