I tend to use modulation early in the songwriting process, when I'm just feeling a song out. Then I move to automation as the song gets more finalized.

Could you please show how to automate using CC control. I don’t have a breath controller but I would like to connect any knob on the MIDI Keyboard to CC and use it to modulate. Can you please make a video for the same.

Wow. Thanks for mentioning this. I’m automating a lot and never even noticed the Aut and Mod tab. I think I’ll start using modulation more, looks like a great way to avoid a lot of the annoying automation conflicts one gets when automating a lot of different parameters from a clip to another or automating stuff that are also map to physical knobs. Curious to see what happens when changing presets of clips that are automated too.

You can also combine modulation with any of the max4live devices like LFO or Envelope Follower or Shaper, but you can't do that with automation.

Hey guys! I have a question. At 0:31 we're told to make sure we're in the envelopes tab (underneath the mouse). For some reason, my entire envelopes tab is completely 100% missing. It's either hidden or disabled and I'm not sure why. Does anyone know how to make the envelopes tab visible or how to enable it?

Great tutorial! Thank you. Quick question: Is there a way to create modulations and adjust modulations in arrangement view? I almost always work in arrangement view but I'm not seeing the word "modulation" mentioned anywhere at all in the arrangement view. I see a lot of options for automation in arrangement but none for modulation.

Like in Calculus, the derivative of the automation, would be modulation. Dope !
