Beautiful ship. And a proud one. Even though people carry on about German expertise the Rodney still turned the Bismarck into a flaming wreck. Like a Volkswagon on a warm day.

Volkswagen*. And dude, there were 2 Battleships, 2 destroyers and an aircraft carrier with torpedo planes attacking a stricken lone ship wich hadn’t the ability to steer due to a lucky hit on the rudder, and the whole Royal Navy was chasing this ship. And my profile is a Prussian flag, not that you thing wrong.

Old Pom i know was actually a seaman in H.M.S. Nelson. He was also what is known as a 'quartermaster helmsman. He told me that the Nelson steered like a drunken cow as ten knots or less and slewed about all over the place! Rodney was the same. All to do with weight distribution forward, The more fuel oil the ships used, the more difficult they became to steer..Very effective gunnery ships but cows at sea!

I have always wondered why Nelson's material condition seemed at a given time to be better, and she seemed to have been modernized a bit more than Rodney? Was this deliberate because she was a flagship, and/or was favored for some reason? Or, was it simply because she was damaged seriously several times in the first half of the war, and they went ahead and did more work on the ship since it was laid up anyway? Any insight on this from other viewers?

The film jumps around a lot, not giving the viewer a clear picture of what goes on aboard the ship. I saw scenes in the main gun turrets, the engine room, and the boiler room, as well as some shots top sides. The latter shots showed what appeared to be navigational activities, the loading of secondary armaments, and a 20mm anti-aircraft gun. I would imagine most of the spotting and gun fire control activities were performed inside the gun turret, the fighting tops, or plotting room. That is my limited knowledge.

My dad was was on the Rodney, he was born in 1922 and would have only been a kid in WW2, I'm not going to lie, he loved his time at sea, it was an escape from the poor conditions/times he was brought up in here in Oldham. We complain how things are now but back in the 30's ...jeepers...no comparison.
