Moral of the story: The boat can handle the weather, the people can't. Braden's 6 Flags rant is epically accurate!! 😎 When Braden mentioned engine realignment, my first mental image was heaving on a pry bar.

Do you know how many times (I cruise solo most of time) the boat and I had to seek therapy and counseling after a passage. For me the first thing I do is grab a burger and a beer, come back to the boat and sleep. I also try to spend a few days recharging my fuel tank before heading back out. Once you get to your summer marina, you will forget about the trip to Norfolk. I know the baby adds a whole new dimension to the stresses

Braden, something similar happened to my family. Our daughter, the same age as yours, couldn't get over the discomfort at sea. The captain gave us some advice, with the experience that he often has with people who are going out for the first time on a cruise at sea. Go and take a nap with the child who is feeling bad, and that helps the young child a lot mentally and emotionally. Taking a nap next to her mom gives them confidence and peace of mind. Try to do it Braden, and you will see that it really works!! I wish you success and continue to enjoy your trip across the ocean!!

I just got done a two-week Cruise from Saint Thomas to Bermuda to Newport RI. Bad weather window the whole time. 5 to 8 ft swells we're very common on a 45 ft sailboat. Just think 30 degree slant from the sails with bobbing forward, backward, side to side. It was horrible ninety percent of the trip. Lesson learned, pick those weather windows carefully.

I did not read comments so this might be redundant but I cruise on a 42' power boat and also get seasick. I use the compression wrist bands "Sea Bands" along with chewable "Bonine" travel pills (very small and really just pretty much melt in your mouth and are non drowsy). This combo works well for me although have not used in seas like you were in as we don't venture out in that as a rule but it is worth a try.

I feel your pain. Boating in the Puget Sound, BC and Alaska we can get some nasty water. But with good planning you can find a good Anchorage or Port to wait it out. My dad was a Piper and Cessna aircraft dealer and we traveled alot as a family of 9. I am the only kid that didn't get air sick. I'd be sitting in my seat having a snack and all my siblings would be throwing up in their sick sacks....my mom who was also a commercial Pilot would look back from the cockpit and see the kids all turning green and me just kicked back enjoying the view....unlike a boat where the bad weather can go for days a airplane is only dealing with turbulence for maybe and hour or two. Enjoy the Voyage Mermaid Monsters.

Think your vids are 3 - 4 weeks behind so storm is over already. but I spent most of my life on Long Island N Y and Northeaster, storm out of the northeast and they can be real bad. Usually any thing out of the east there brought high winds... I mostly retired and moved my boat to Hampton virginia this spring where I will stay on it at least for the summer. If your spending summer in Norfolk your close by. Lots of big navy and cargo ships. I guess not as hot as Fl. but been pretty hot here also.

I enjoy your videos. I also know nothing about big boats. I watch KZbin a lot and saw a video where this device called a Sea Keeper was demonstrated. It provided a 50 - 70 percent reduction in lateral roll on a boat. Of course it did not prevent longitudinal roll, when you are crashing head on into waves. You could alter your angle of attack though. You might check this out. It is expensive. Just a thought.

@Aboardmermaidmonster we feel you. These kind of crossings raise those moments of questionable doubt and really force soul searching and tough conversations. Then you land, or swells subside, and dolphins and turtles swim by and joy of nature and your intentional life choice hits you full force. But back to stabilizer, man, if you can invest and install after-market - marriage saver! My husband and I had so many squabbles in our smaller 36 ft power cruiser. We purchased as an option on our vessel but it did not work first 6 months. Once fixed, we experienced the difference. Never regretted the expense since that point. And only time hubby gets earful is if he is considering crossing Gulf knowingly when waves predicted high - and we literally stand down to Mother Nature at that point.

What do you do with burnout. Well you need to remind yourself of the goals you set. Then think about the good things. Think about what it would be like if you quit doing what you are doing. Is the other option better? Every option is going to have its hard times. But remember that your good times are better than most. There are several thousand people watching you that would rather be doing what you are doing than what they are doing.

Miscellaneous ramblings and observations. 1) It always helps when you have reliable, experienced and knowledgeable service techs. 2) A boat as capable as a Nordhavn will always take more than the crew will. That is a major safety factor , plus there is no need to beat the heck out of yourself and the family. After all, they call it pleasure boating for a reason. 3) Weather conditions, the boat’s mechanical condition and the crews needs dictate schedule. In that order I guess.

I get meclazine chewable tablets on Amazon for less than $10 for 100. Can Rooney chew tablets ok? I know some kids won’t do that if the taste is off. Cruising on a schedule is brutal and we did that this year on our Kadey Krogen - Bahamas to Long Island Sound in 10 days with just hubby and I. We had just a little bit of roughness but nothing terrible and it got better as the day went on which was good (Cape May to Long Island Sound). I don’t like rough weather and this year had such small windows so while we hoped to do Allens Pensacola to Morehead City, we had to bail to Tybee Roads and we made it in an hour before the winds picked up and switched to the northeast! Man, boating is fun! 🤣🤣🤣.
