Once you're done consuming all things Abobo, be cure to check out other episodes of Flashlight for more mini-documentaries and retrospectives on Flash series and Newgrounds history! kzbin.info/aero/PLm8EfLP6ncZRJ3yeyosks8_IA26JAn8wP Thank you once again to Team Abobo for working with me on this to make it as comprehensive as possible!

Amazing job Graeme! The process of putting this together was a feat so epic it rivals the production of the game itself! I think I speak for all the developers of Abobo's Big Adventure when I say that we couldn't have chosen a more perfect person and channel to take this project on. It's hard for any coverage of this game to feel like it does justice to the amount of love we dumped into Abobo, but this achieves that high standard. Very excellent job and THANK YOU for putting so much time and effort into archiving all of this for future generations to enjoy.

Thank YOU for generously making yourselves available to answer questions, providing the insane amount of exclusive behind the scenes extras and WIP assets, plus all the feedback on the final edit! This video couldn't be what it is without your contributions. Having it be so collaborative feels very fitting of Abobo

I imagine for the castlevania stage, it would start with Abobo picking up Simon and then for the rest of the level, his main attack would be using Simon as a whip. Just slinging him at enemies.

Fun fact, I actually wrote a journal entry on Deviantart that was packed full of ideas for a sequel to Abobo's Big Adventure! Nick Pasto saw it and he loved it, and he even told me "If we ever do end up getting the team back together for Abobo's SUPER Adventure, this might just become our design document!" How awesome is that?

Graeme, I mentioned this to you earlier, but it bears repeating here in public: This is gonna be one of those videos just like the FarFromSubtle stream that I come back to again and again over the years when I want to reminisce about the fun we had with the game or whenever I'm feeling down and need a pick me up. I've been smiling for the entire past hour watching this thing, man. You really did such a fantastic job compiling the long history behind this game into something that anybody - whether familiar with the game or not - can easily digest. You talk about setting the bar high at the end of your video.... well you just set this Roger Barr high! I'm super happy with how it turned out and I cannot thank you enough for caring this much about our game. I can't believe there's now a real documentary about Abobo's Big Adventure. Who could predict that what started as a ridiculous idea for a Flash animation on Newgrounds would still be talked about 20 years later, let alone the subject of such a wonderfully crafted in-depth video. Just as with the four-hour 10th anniversary live stream - THANK YOU for all the time you put into this, Graeme!

I was an avid Newgrounds fan back in the day (and hopefully will release a game demo on Newgrounds one day), and I remember seeing promo art for Abobo's Big Adventure. . I was always interested in playing video games both new and old, and being born in the 90s, but understanding a lot of the 80s references and material, I knew that I needed to play this game. . I remember watching Awesome Video Games and loving the Double Dragon episode, I remember watching AVGN and loving the DD3 episode, so yes I HAD to play ABA. . Playing the game was not only challenging, but so enjoyable as I remember the determination to beat it in one sitting. . The ending made me very satisfied. . Thank you for making this documentary and I hope it reaches out to more people, also to clarify one thing, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME UNTIL IT WAS RELEASED BY NEWGROUNDS. . I played it because Newgrounds recommended it, it look 8-bit (I adore classic games), and Abobo looked tough, DOUBLE TOUGH. . .

This is a fantastic video. 2 Left Thumbs has been killing it with these great tributes to classic Newgrounds history that not a lot of people talk about. People talk about Newgrounds website and a couple of games/animations but not a lot of people talk about the history of games and the animations that had a following on Newgrounds. Also since Newgrounds Rumble is going to turn 15 years old this year (May 29, 2007), I'm curious if you're going to make a video about it?

Newgrounds Rumble has a special place in my heart! I am balancing out a few bigger projects, including some major anniversaries later this year! But that one might have to wait. The wait my schedule is booked up the next few months, both on and off youtube I won't have the time unfortunately. But I am eager to give that game the send up it deserves!

Amazing video for q fantastic game. This was clearly an homage for all of us who played the classics, who knew about the Konami code, and who lived through the 80’s/early 90’s. I usually HATE when fangames mismatch sprites from different looking games (example double dragon sprites with Zelda sprites, or street fighter sprites with king of fighter sprites) but in the case of ABA it works incredibly because of the NES Universe and gameplay mix of nostalgia. For the same reason I think a Super ABA with all original sprites/artwork would not have the same impact.if they ever do that game, they HAVE to include the final fight stage 1 or even better the stage 2 (subway stage), they HAVE to include super Mario world Mario kart etc stages using the original assets, or else the charm will be different. For Mario kart stage I imagine abobo throwing different nes 8bits sprites instead of loops shields, for castlevania stage I imagine Abobo using Simon’s spinal tap as a whip and matching Medusa. Lastly, I don’t get the mustache part. Didn’t Abobo always had a mustache/beard?? He was originally influenced by Mr. T that’s why he also had a Mohawk in the arcade Double Dragon (first stage boss). The other big guy in that stage, bald and with white skin purple pants, was Bolo. Technos kinda made a fusion of the two for the nes version of the game, as probably not enough memory for more than one big character.
