Like most, I'm not a huge fan of most of the "alternative stuff", but I would say when I wanted something other than beef, I opt for making either turkey and/or salmon burgers!

Ethan Chlebowski published a really nice black bean smash burger recipe a couple of years ago. Very nice alternative take. Not mushy like a lot of black bean burger patties, and decent sear via the smash burger technique.

Just a quick translation - You guys did a really good job of saying in other terms: the plant based patty is complete crap, the black bean is ok and the ground beef is the mac daddy! It is what it is guys 😂

I am not a fan of black bean burgers or impossible burgers. But,,, I really enjoy original garden burgers w/bacon. When I think of burgers what I want, it is a whopper!

So you eat nothing that is processed? Or do you only get worked up about fakenburgers?

I have to wonder how many people who are avoiding processed foods would a processed impossible burger because it’s plant-based. I can only imagine how much processing is required to make soybeans beans resemble real meat.

We tried the black bean burgers once from Costco. The first time we cooked them they tasted great. As the days went on and a week had passed we cooked them again, they were mediocre. Another week went by and I tried one for lunch and it was disgusting. We ended up throwing the rest of the box away and never bothered with them again. But what I don't get is why they all have to say they are imitation meat? if they are a viable product, they should be able to stand on their own without the comparison. Maybe I am just weird in my thinking?
@gerriefarman31745 ай бұрын
Yeah, black bean burgers have been getting better over the years and I get them on occasions when I just want a "burger" without the unwanted extras.. The impossible burgers are going to get better as they refine the recipe and people, like yourselves, give them feedback on how it tastes and feels.

Beyond burgers are similar to Impossible burgers, you may want to try them, I thought that the Beyond was better than Impossible.
@Garth20115 ай бұрын
Price is a factor with us just as much as the taste. Might be fun to try the 3 types built the way you normally build a burger so the only change is the patty. It's too much of a change to try a dry burger that is rarely eaten that way. There is no way I'd eat that plant burger if the price per pound came to half of the ground chuck. So if its $3 a pound or less, it might have a chance but no way above that which makes me think $2 a pound might be its value.
@patrickshaw79835 ай бұрын
An interesting comparison. I am not a vegetarian but I do not eat red meat. The impossible does not appeal to me but I would love to try the black bean, however I'm not sure it is available here in UK. I will have to search.

I have tried all and will stick with the good old plant based beef burgers made from naturally and organically processed grasses by a cow and not in a factory/lab environment. But I do like your comparison and there are different products out there for everyone to find what they like.

I love a great All American Burger. Meat does get to my stomach and my choice was the black bean burger as well. The impossible burger has so many oils in it, I was better off with a real burger. If i couldn't eat red meat, the black bean would be just fine for me. Entertaining video.
@WreckDiver995 ай бұрын
I have tried an impossible...while they taste incredibly like real beef, I look at the ingredients to make it and just say no...Just NO. It has nothing to do with it being "vegan" or "vegetarian", it has 100% to do with the fact that there are way too many chemicals and 'chemistry' going on with them. I get ground from beef (or Bison, Venison, Elk) locally. The Beef and Bison are both locally sourced from farms thanks to our location. The elk comes from Colorado I believe. The best is that our butcher will custom grind if you want (as long as your order exceeds, I think, 5 lbs) We have done parties where we go through 25lb+ of ground beef and they actually did the seasoning and patty making for us (I just supplied the amounts of seasoning per pound I wanted). They can supply burger patty sizes of 1/4lb, 1/3lb, or 1/2lb portions. As for black bean? I just don't care for them. I don't hate them, and I've had them a few times, but I just prefer my beef (bison, venison and elk).

I dated a vegetarian many years ago. One of our favorite things to do for a dinner date was to go to a place that didn't know us. The waitstaff would come over to take our orders and she would go through the whole thing, asking: "Do you keep all the vegetarian plates and utensils separate and wash them separately?" and so on. Then they would turn to me, and I'd say: "Filet, medium, with a loaded baked potato, and don't forget the bacon bits..." That always made them do a double take! We liked to mess with them! Funny thing is she was also Jewish (but didn't keep Kosher)...
