Very useful video for first time rv buyers like ya'll said. It's so true that when you are ready to buy your first rv you simply don't know what you know until after you've used your new rv a few times.

We have a 2019 261RBSL as well and I can't think of anything that we don't absolutely love about it. We looked for months and we just knew that it was the one when we saw it. Love all of your videos.

And that’s the same exact year and model Kodiak we own as well! We love it so much it’s difficult choosing a different model we’d upgrade to.

Whatever you get make sure you realize it will be lucky to last 10 years. And make sure you budget a good chunk of change to improve the axles and add things it should have came with in the first place.

You pointed out some great things to consider, both for the outside and the inside. Another thing I have found is that when looking for a model with a bunkroom, a lot of them have the entryway through the kitchen instead of in the hallway. Those with the kitchen entry to the bunkroom lose an entire wall of cabinets and the kitchen storage is usually very minimal. And if you need a bunkroom, you need kitchen storage too. We have a mid bunkroom that was changed to a craft room and the entryway in the hall works best for us. Since we are full timers, we need that kitchen storage. It may eliminate a bit of storage in the bunkroom so that's a consideration for those whose kids need lots of clothes and toys.

Great episode Abby and Adam. It's really useful to hear these tips from someone with a lot of miles and hours in their RV who really knows about those items to watch out for that a first time buyer wouldn't even think of. Seems like you could do some follow up episodes and take this topic a lot further.

Adam could sell RVs. People would appreciate him being upfront about features and the customers would ultimately be happier with their purchases.

Write down what you need make a list of requirements seems like a good idea, like your list of goods to take with you

Something you may also want to consider is getting a toy hauler even if you don't currently need it. I made this mistake because I later found out that a lot of RV parks allow golf carts and I own a golf cart but I can't take it with me.

My in-laws had a 34' Mallard from the 90's. Talk about OVER LOADED. We quite literally pulled 2 TONS of stuff. Cast Iron up the wazoo (makes you're collection pale in comparison), FULL SET of Mechanic's tools (I mean FULL), 24 Place settings of dishes and silverware. SO MUCH STUFF...that was never used. They even put two 27" Tube TVs in it that weighted about 75lbs each. It was CRAZY. They didn't even use 90% of the stuff, but it was always "We have it in case somebody else doesn't". OMG...yea, it was a mess for sure at the end of it's life.

Speaking from experience and owning several travel trailers over the years, stay away from the motorized jacks! The manual ones never fail. The motorized ones do those motors being underneath are hammered with water, salt and everything else and they just don't last. You're better off to just use a drill and manual jacks.

How important is accessibility to Bathroom and kitchen in "road mode"? I see a lot of people talk about it. We only camp at camp grounds now but hope to travel farther soon. When you stay at wally world or whatever are you not allowed to put your slide out? You guys travel a lot and long distance how often to you parking lot camp?

I agree with your comments. I am in the market for an RV but have not found one that meets my needs. In particular, I want a small one that will fit on my carport, (clearance to the beam is critical). I want a small light one that I can walk into and stand upright and not require a larger vehicle to tow, even though I have a full-size V-8 truck, I may decide to downsize one day. I don't need a lot of amities such as full bath and toilet. Just a bed, small stove and refrigerator with a decent table is sufficient. All my wants are difficult to find.

Wondering if you checked out RV’s like Scamp. They’re small, I think you can stand up in them and they’re all fiberglass. We’ve seen a few in our travels and they look pretty interesting.
@tonyn3123 Жыл бұрын
Yes I have looked at them. The height is the issue I am having trouble with. I also need good ground clearance for possible rough terrain, but still fit on my carport. I hate leaving anything in the weather. Thanks.@@AbomAdventures

First thing I would look for are the axle and tire sizes. I would never purchase a tow RV with 15" wheels and 3,500 lb axles, never ever ! Secondly, I would be sure I had a reasonable place to store it, preferably inside under a roof and out of the elements. Then I would look at the many makes and models that meet my requirements.
