@Sunamer1 the light aircraft is most likely VFR, he can orbit in the downwind while the heavy lands, the heavy cannot

Having spent 2 years in SXM, I know that Cessna or whatever small plane had plenty of time to get the hell outta the way. Probably a local happy to make 200 tourists have a tour of the island :)
@SS0894714 жыл бұрын
@sferc97 .. No, the small twin engined aircraft had not left the runway (can still be seen at 00:38) hence the go-around.
@skateslick5814 жыл бұрын
In the Navy, you would get a yellow seat cover indicating you missed the cable while landing on deck and had to come around for another go.
@Britalex14 жыл бұрын
@cadence33333 i understand your point of wake turbulence, the hard line fact is, that the 757 would burn serious amount of fuel in the go around proceedure and delay the arrival. A private VFR could orbit on a downwind leg and allow seperation
@Britalex14 жыл бұрын
@Padarom well, [heavy in comparison to the light ;)] i guess the prop was under vfr, and jet ifr. its up for the atc to judge seperation.. for me, i would bring the heavy first and then advise 4miles seperation for the light aircraft. orbit in the downwind leg. etc
@lyokoBSTN13 жыл бұрын
@Deltapilot96 lol, the small aircraft was classed as No.1 for landing as he requested first, the 757 was No.2 for landing, so because he was so close behind, he had no choice but to go around, the small aircraft was already committed
@Britalex14 жыл бұрын
@StigsCanadianCousin Hello sir, thanks for your reply. The commercial pilot may have been suggested to slow to minimum approach speed. [in a 757 that may have been as low as 117knots]. My problem is, that tower control would have had the light aircraft on frequency, and know of the 757 inbound.. IF i were atc i would have judged the distance and speed and say to the light "[callsign] you are number 2 behind an 757 recommended spacing is 4 miles, call final runway **,
@1flyfire813 жыл бұрын
@smartdon007 The runway has to be clear for the second plane to land. The twin was not entirely off the runway and the land/don't land decision had to be made, probably by the pilot in this case. It happens, but this is a separation issue that is usually taken care of miles away on approach. Doesn't always work out, especially when a jet is following a smaller, slower plane. This is what happened with Michele Obama's plane a month ago or so.
@StigsCanadianCousin14 жыл бұрын
@aceridgey That said, not arguing with you, sir, once the twin was clear to land, don't you think the pilot of the airliner was a bit cavalier to continue the approach in landing configuration all the way to the threshold? He would have been (made) aware of the traffic, and should have seen him with at least a mile or two to go. With such a short runway, no parallel taxiway and no overrun, would it not be safer to elect to go-around sooner? I'm not ATC, but pilot who has been in both shoes.
@deltafan90915 жыл бұрын
I don't know but that was why the 757 had to go around....the aircraft was still on the runway. They probably so close because one thing, a 757 is a lot faster than a little multi-engine turboprop.
@clarinetman166416 жыл бұрын
The ATC must have told the beechcraft to go around because of the difference of size of the two aircrafts, to let priority to the 757, but that one missed his approach because he was preoccupated to see another aircraft so close. Is my supposition good or not?
@Pewpew414 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what the arrangements were, but the 757 should have landed first. I mean... there are ways to avoid wake turbulence. It sinks, stay above it all the way to touchdown.
@foxtrot78914 жыл бұрын
@hiimkian how on earth does simply living on the island make you capable of judging the ATC's abilities? Are you a pilot? An air traffic controller on the island? Do anything related to aviation other than stare at the airplanes wondering how they fly without flapping their wings?
@ArcadeTimeTV13 жыл бұрын
@47bobful The jet couldn't land because the plane that came in before wasn't off the runway yet.
@Ninjabeefyschtick14 жыл бұрын
@aceridgey either way... how come the 2 planes are so close? if the first 1 lands first... those wind caused by the heavy one could be deadly for the small one.... thats what i heard from an incident recently...
@mplays13 жыл бұрын
Happens all the time. Sometimes faster aircrafts are caught behind slower planes. Smaller planes are informed to clear runway no delay to try to get the larger aircraft in. sometimes it works other times is does not. Happens everyday
@seanpintara11 жыл бұрын
You'd think the controller would have got the 757 to create more space by doing that zigzag maneuver. (I forgot the real term for it).
@Rother8915 жыл бұрын
Yeah! this morning i was flying a cessna with my instructor and the ATC told me that the runway was cleared to land, so i was on final approach and suddenly, just seconds to touch down i saw a fokker 100 taking off and the ATC told me to go around lol. After 4 months of flying experience this was my first time that this happens to me.

The air traffic controller probably set the right separation distance, but he forgot that a 757 goes a lot faster then the GA aircraft.
@Britalex14 жыл бұрын
@bajesus666 sorry sir you are debating with some one who is very involved in air traffic control, the only reason i am not saying anything conclusive, is that i mainly know about United Kingdom Proceedures, However, atc rules still apply, the tower controler thought he could bring the light before the medium/heavy.. I would have said "[light aircraft] you are number two behind an AA B752, recommended spacing is 4miles report final, orbit/extend at the downwind as necessary, report final"
@ajcrw14 жыл бұрын

Since the island belongs to the dutch and french, the FAA has no say in what happens. ICAO rules and regs apply here. English is spoken by the pilots and the controllers, but the reason the beach is there, and why the aircraft approached and/or went around the way they did is due to how the dutch and french run the show. I've seen a similar occurrence where a 747 in Amsterdam had to go around from a similar altitude due to a DC-10 on the runway that had just landed...

@DiamondPilotDan12 жыл бұрын
are you a pilot? I am, and i know for a fact that air carrier jets get priority. making the 757 go around would take longer and burn much more fuel.. extremely wasteful. the twin could just hop into the traffic pattern and come back for another go. several times, I have been on final approach, and been told to to go around because of a jet behind me. most recently, i was on 1/2mile final and had to go around cuz a learjet was coming up behind me faster than anticipated, even though i stayed fast
@newalm12 жыл бұрын

the first plane landed? Think I saw it on the runway. In my opinion the ATC at st.maarten kinda.. sucks. There's another video of a 747' cleared to take off while an airplane is approaching, they went around without any ATC warning or so, they discovered the plane on the runway by themselves..

"Cessna PJ-WEC, keep the speed up, first available exit - or you'll be a new hood ornament for 767 on short final". That ought to scare him off the runway. Imagine the look on the face of the pilot of the twin, when he sees the shadow overtake him!!!!!

I don't think this is bad ATC I think that this is poor communication between the conrollers. If the light aircraft contacted apporach they would get first preference to what to do which in this case was to land. In that case the ATC should have noticed and insturted thye heavy to circle.

I never said a go-around takes one hour. $1800 is just not right, even if it seems right. Kids thinking they're all right 'n stuff only if they have a top comment. I doubt you're an adult. If this is seriously you, you will never make it to a commercial pilot license. P.S. I am 16 and i have 2 licenses, almost my third. I am from The Netherlands and study on the DFA.
