Yes you called it. When you tighten that plastic a good hand tight should be enough. I must say you both are great examples of how not to get all bent out of shape when things don’t go how you intended. Your teaching the children how to fail and keep on keeping on until you figure it out. God Bless you all. Great work

Great job guys. I suggest when working with pvc pipe just hand tighten them and be generous with that teflon tape. It's easier to fix lose connection then broken one.

How about this idea. Next to your faucet dig a hole maybe 1 1/2 " deeper. Put a stee blackl pipe in hole add a bag of cement. Let dry attach your faucet pipe to black pipe.😜

When I plumb a yard hydrant, instead of using a 90, I use a TEE fitting with 2 slip joints, and a female threaded joint on the middle port , pointing up. I continue the line about 2 feet past the hydrant, and cap it off. That way when the hydrant pushes down on the pipe, there is not a tendency to bend the 90 and break it. I use a short threaded nipple, either brass or sch-80, to couple the hydrant to the tee. Another advantage of this is that you can later extend the line from where it is capped off, without digging up the hydrant. Also, backfill around the bottom of the hydrant with about 5 gallons of pea gravel so the water can drain from the hydrant when you turn it off. There is a drain hole down there.

That is a sound idea on how to connect the yard hydrant. Hopefully I remember for the next one down the road. Thanks for the good tips. 👍 🙂

Best trick I ever learned was to heat up a socket that just fits the broken PVC and leave it in there a few moments and the glue just separates and needle nose pliers pulls it out.

Oh man. We have 3 x 2500gal tanks and used rubber connectors from the tank PVC stub to the main PVC connector line to allow for tank settling without snapping the PVC. Maybe you could do the same from PVC to that water valve sticking up if it continues to wiggle. However, so exciting to see you have water - congratulations!

If it makes you feel any better, my wife and I purchased a new home in 2003, that was built in 2002 and remained vacant for one year. It was built by a company named Pulte homes and was one of their mid-range one-story models at the time. We have done very little maintenance, other than replacing the gas-oven/stove and gas water-heater, and changing the floors. Everything on the house needs to be replaced or hopefully upgraded. We have all kinds of electrical / plumbing problems that are above our brain-capacity. We need a new roof, new dishwasher, new microwave. We need to enlarge the pantry somehow. We hate the layout of the laundry-room, but don't see any way to replace it. We need more closets. We care for my elderly mother-in-law and our nineteen year old offspring will soon be moving away in a few months. Neither of us are in good health, but it does appear that we will be empty-nesters in a few years, and will eventually have to spend some money fixing things in the house or selling it. We may not be able to sell it, as we both have legal-judgments against us.

I was grading my teeth watching you work so hard to remove that pipe I'll hide it there's a very simple tool for removing broken pipe like that. I can't remember the name of the tool for removing broken sprinkler heads it's tapered you just wedge it into the pipe and it has a t handle and then you just screw it out

Would I be right in guessing that EVERY leak is due to overtightening? I'm pretty sure you tighten barrel unions by hand. All my farm reticulation is hand tightened unions. Let's just rejoice in the final success.
@waylonhartwell Жыл бұрын
They are pretty rare but there are some old washers that have a long drain hose that would go into your sink and could reverse the suction and refill from the rinse cycle of the last load I think and top up with a little bit of hot water and then they would have a second hose that would drain to waste but I haven't seen one in years I think Maytag made them in the 90s

Why bury pipes and joints before testing? Or did I miss something?
@aboulderlifeoffgrid Жыл бұрын
We did test them with air before we buried them. I think the problem arose from the fittings being overtightened and then being buried and compacted in a rough manner. That's the only thing I can think of to cause so many problems. Thanks for watching. 🙂
@zlatkozlatko100 Жыл бұрын
@@aboulderlifeoffgrid I live in Germany and I used to work as a construction worker. When building a new house, residential building or renovating an old property, we always tested the water pipe system with a water pressure of 10 bar (145 psi). If the pressure of 10 bar was maintained for 7 days, we considered the pipe system to be good and would continue the work.
