I’m a 53 year old Englishman and I travelled to Prague recently for the first time. I spent a week learning some simple Czech phrases because I always feel so guilty travelling and resorting to English. Everyone was so encouraging when I said “Můžu zkusit Češtinu?”!! 😊 I fell in love with the language and have been learning as much as I can from books and videos since then. Yours are some of the very best on KZbin, huge thanks for your efforts making them! ❤️

Hello! Thank you for this kind comment. You have the right approach and I think the phrase "Můžu zkusit češtinu" is really nice and people cannot say no to you! I wish more people had the same spirit as yours regarding learning Czech and other languages.

@@CzechbyZuzka I would sometimes precede the phrase with “Promiňte, jsem hloupý Angličan” or “Čeština je krásná!” which never failed to get a positive reaction! I did embarrass myself by attempting to say “Vážím si toho” but actually saying “Vařím si toho” 😂 Thankfully a helpful waiter explained my mistake and it became somewhat of a little story to tell on our trip! Keep up the wonderful work on your videos! Vážím si tě! ❤️

I've begun to learn Czech before moving to Czechia because I will have been getting education by the time I arrive there. I will get it in English but I am eager to learn this language to explore the new culture and to experience this challenging journey. Your channel is so beneficial for it. Keep forward! Hezký víkend!

Hi Zuzka, I still don't get the meaning of "dám si", it's "I have" or "I want"? Good video btw 😉
@CzechbyZuzka
@CzechbyZuzka 2 ай бұрын
It corresponds to "I'll have" when you order food or drinks. Literally, it means "I'll give to myself" (dát = give).

krásný večer!! Děkuji moc Zuzko!! Mám radost! I was looking for this kind of well explained topic. I am not sure whether I am right or not, check my below translation, if it is right or u can correct it. Například: We'll have two coffee/ 5 strawberries. I can say: Dáme si dvě kavu / pět jahody. Dobře nebo špatně? Děkuji!!
@CzechbyZuzka
@CzechbyZuzka 2 жыл бұрын
The thing is, when we talk about plural (more than 1), we use different cases: Dám si 2, 3, 4 jahody/kávy... - accusative plural Dám si 5 (and more) jahod/káv... - genitive plural (if it is countable), singular if uncoutable You can check my video about counting (you probably have seen it) kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5y9pJpmodOtp8U The accusative and nominative case would be the same if talk about inanimate nouns, e.g.: To jsou 2 polévky (subject of sentence, nominative case). Dám si 2 polévky (object, accusative c). Fun stuff!

How to say -This is good sparkling water -to je dobrá perlivou vodu right??
@CzechbyZuzka
@CzechbyZuzka Жыл бұрын
It would actually be: _To je dobrá perlivá voda._ *Voda* is the subject of the sentences you used. It would become an object (in the accusative case) if you introduce another subject, such as: (ty) Máš ráda _perlivou vodu?_

Hledám ženu pro muj byt, ale Hledá se žena.
@CzechbyZuzka
@CzechbyZuzka 2 жыл бұрын
Correct, the construct you mentioned is passive voice formed with the reflexive pronoun _se,_ where the object becomes the subject of the sentence. Ztratil jsem *peněženku.* -- Ztratila _se_ (mi) *peněženka.* Vařím *polévku.* -- *Polévka* _se_ vaří.
