Let's say I have a hinged door at the top of a straight staircase that goes down into a basement. Would it be possible to move the door to the wall that's adjacent to the opening (i.e. a wall that's 90 degrees to the top of the staircase)? I'm wondering if it would be possible but I'm having trouble thinking of ideas. I'm a homeowner that's interested in having the door to the basement moved to a slightly different location.

As long as it won't create a problem with local building codes, then absolutely.

the angle rotation should start from the first step all through the last one. Thus you get a stair walk friendly, and harmonious.

Can you provide me with a little more details. For example what type of shuttering are you referring to?

You would need to check with your local building departments.
