FILM DESCRIPTION:
When Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson) is 21, his father (Bill Nighy) tells him a secret: The men in their family can travel through time. Although he can't change history, Tim resolves to improve his life by getting a girlfriend. He meets Mary (Rachel McAdams), falls in love and finally wins her heart via time-travel and a little cunning. However, as his unusual life progresses, Tim finds that his special ability can't shield him and those he loves from the problems of ordinary life.

What’s sweet is thinking that Tim’s dad was able to go back in time himself secretly a few times in order to get the speech quite right, and I like to imagine that he did it over and over again because it’s so special to him

What i love about this film is that its not really a film about time travel at all. Its a film about two relationships. The one between Tim and Mary, and the other between Tim and his Dad. And Tim's reluctance and eventual acceptance of letting go of the relationship he has with his father. A much underrated film.

The chaotic wedding scene is an absolute masterpiece, the fact that he didn’t go back in time to a time where the weather was perfect shows us that sometimes it can be that the perceived chaotic things in our lives can actually be the best outcomes for us, implying that not everything has to be perfect

I got secondhand embarrassment from these speeches when I first watched this scene, though Tim's dad's speech was very tasteful and moving.

I've witnessed something like those speeches from a best man who was 3 sheets to the wind...bumbling vulgar and embarrassing stories, that were awkward for everyone to hear, not least of whom...the beautiful talented bride. It was as if the guy thought he was still at the stag party, not an ounce of self-awareness about him.

I don’t have a good, or should I say, close relationship with my father, throughout the years he has turned more into a roommate rather than a father and these scenes, with Tim and his father always make me cry - in my opinion, this has got to be one of the most moving father-son relationships in film history.
